Remember 魅影直播's single intersection with a stoplight? This year our small village celebrated 50 years since the installation of a traffic light. That event signaled how 魅影直播 had come of age and is big enough to warrant stopping along your way. The small-town charm has even earned recognition as the #1 Ultimate College Town by The Washington Post for the highest concentration of students in the US. 魅影直播 has only 4,026 counted in the US Census while we are also home to more than 4,000 students. A special guest visited the first-year CNC Manufacturing and Machining lab as the spring semester wound down. First year student Derek Correa reconnected with classmates, his professor Jeff Hellwig, and 魅影直播 State administration during his visit to thank them for their support of his recovery.

Correa was assaulted in October and has faced months of recovery. A witness immediately reported the attack and University Police responded, rendered aid, and made arrests of four suspects from Elmira who were outsiders to the ASC community.

鈥淚 truly appreciate everybody鈥檚 support. All the thoughts and prayers have helped, and they have paid off because Derek is a walking, living miracle. 魅影直播 State and our hometown of Bradford, PA has been amazing through all of this, and I thank you all for it.鈥Alysia Zandy, mother

Derek鈥檚 mother, Alysia, provided an update. 鈥淭hey are trying to get his left side stronger. His left side is still weak, and his balance is still slightly off. He still needs to be supervised and once he can walk and stand better by himself, he can come back to school. He wants to come back and finish his degree.鈥

Derek is currently home and is receiving physical, speech, and occupational therapy. 鈥淥ccupational therapy is helping him do daily tasks like making food, doing laundry, and playing games.鈥

As Derek spoke with classmates and his teacher, Alysia wanted to express her family鈥檚 thanks.

Derek took pictures with his classmates and 魅影直播 State leaders and even took the time to thank the 魅影直播 State community in a that was played during commencement.

The sixth annual Students of Color Leadership Conference highlighted a month of programming at 魅影直播 State College (ASC) celebrating Black History Month. The daylong conference organized by the Cultural Life Center (CLC) featured guest speakers, panels, music, and food.

Interim Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Afua Boahene was pleased with how the day went. 鈥淲e had amazing speakers, and the day was lively and engaging. We were able to learn but at the same time have a fun time.鈥

The day started with attendees choosing workshops that touched on topics including Contemplating the Complexity of Identity, Testing Your Comfort Zone with Authentic Connections for Success, Self-Care as a Foundation, and Unlocking the Power of Social Media.

ASC Coordinator of Student Activities Steven Edwards Jr. moderated a panel that included 魅影直播 University Professor of Psychology Dr. Michelle Tichy, Founder and CEO of MA Therapy LLC Amira Martin-Saltsman, ASC Director of EOP Nadine Shardlow, and Director for Graduation Diversity Initiatives at the University of Rochester Dr. Antonio William.

After lunch and a musical performance by 魅影直播 University alum Chaz Bruce. Dr. Marcelle Haddix, Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives at Syracuse University delivered the keynote address.

鈥淚t is nice to have things like this,鈥 commented ASC student Dani Abihzer. 鈥淚t is an opportunity for everybody to get to know each other and see that we can come together as a community. My biggest takeaway is that it is okay to be yourself. Being yourself is what is going to make you successful.鈥
