��Ӱֱ�� State College (ASC) and the Bethesda Foundation celebrated their continued partnership with a ribbon cutting event to honor the new Birthing Simulation Laboratory used in the nursing program.

“What a great day to celebrate the amazing partnership we have had for over thirty years with the Bethesda Foundation,” commented ASC President Dr. Steve Mauro. “This new birthing simulation laboratory will not only impact our students here at ��Ӱֱ�� State, but the impact will be felt throughout the southern tier.”

Nursing Department Chair and Assistant Professor Jody Blankenship knows the impact that this new high fidelity live birthing manikin will have. “This child-birthing simulator provides a variety of scenarios that nursing students would rarely be able to see in real life. This not only provides excellent learning opportunities for our students, but it also opens the door for some innovative community outreach initiatives.”

Rob Price, the Executive Director of the Bethesda Foundation, revealed the manikin's name was Bailey Miller. “This is not a manikin; this is a remarkable piece of machinery. Personally, I think the role the trained obstetric nurses play in the birthing process contributes enormously to the mother's health and well-being. We are thankful that this nursing program and college are looking for ways and resources, like Bailey, which can contribute to the overall quality of healthcare in the region.”

Bailey can simulate multiple scenarios including amniotic fluid embolism, breech vaginal delivery, magnesium toxicity, normal vaginal delivery, placental abruption, postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, prolapsed cord, and shoulder dystocia.

Mauro continued “We are proud of our partnership with the Bethesda Foundation and look forward to our continued collaboration for years to come. Together we can continue to educate students and impact the local health community.”

“Looking a little bit down the road the Bethesda Foundation is very ready to partner further with ��Ӱֱ�� State College an even broader outreach to the community,” commented Price. “We hope to be able to develop programs with the college and the nursing program that reach into our communities and support and improve the quality of regional health care.

The Bethesda Foundation has been a long-standing collaborator with ��Ӱֱ�� State. Over the years they have contributed over $359,000 to nursing students through annual scholarships. They also were key in the start of the college's Radiologic Technology program.

The Bethesda Foundation of Hornell is a non-profit charitable organization devoted to the funding and support of health-related projects and scholarships for the Hornell community. It was created in 1986 after the Bethesda Hospital closed in 1985.

��Ӱֱ�� State strengthened the relationship between the college, Perry's Ice Cream, and 1985 alum Brian Perry with the opening of the newest food location on campus, “The Nook”.

At the ribbon cutting for the new space, ��Ӱֱ�� State President Dr. Steve Mauro stated, “This all starts with a partnership, and it is tailored from hearing what our students want. Our students wanted ice cream, so birthed ‘The Nook' and what better of a partner to do this than with than Brian Perry and Perry's Ice Cream.”

“This really symbolizes what we are all about here at ��Ӱֱ�� State, family, and community. We are part of a family here with ACES, our students, our faculty and staff, and with our alumni like Brian. We are grateful to Brian and Perry's.”

Perry, the Executive Vice President, and Chairman, is excited to continue his partnership with ��Ӱֱ�� State. “This is the college that I support. I have always felt at home here and have built great relationships. When I attended ��Ӱֱ��, I knew what I was going to do with my life and where I was going. I needed people to teach and mentor me. I had many evenings and dinners with my professors challenging them to make me better so we could make Perry's better.”

Located at the center of campus, “The Nook” serves both Perry's hard ice cream and novelty items. Students can also find grocery items, allergen free snacks, protein bars and drinks, frozen pizza, heat-n-serve soup, microwavable meals, party snacks, a variety of beverages, and sweets.

“This distinctive space is an ideal location for establishing a vibrant and convenient retail spot,” commented Auxiliary Campus Enterprises and Services (ACES) Executive Director Jonna Anne. “I want to thank my staff for their dedication and work to make this happen.”

The Nook is open during some of the peak hours when students crave something beyond their usual meals. It's open Monday through Friday from 5-10 p.m. and 2-8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

FedEx donated a tractor and trailer to the Truck and Diesel program in March 2024. Dustin Schmerge, HB District Fleet Maintenance Manager, arranged for the equipment to be delivered to the Wellsville campus. He is pictured, second to the left, with Jeff Stevens, Dean of the School of Applied Technology, and Truck and Diesel students.

He also attended the ��Ӱֱ�� State Career Fair that day on campus, recruiting truck and diesel students.

FedEx came back to campus in April to present to the students in the program. They presented on the company and job opportunities.

The beginning of a great corporate partnership!

Anderson Equipment donated 100 hours of a mini excavator use to the Truck and Diesel and Heavy Equipment Operations programs for the 2023-24 school year.

In addition, Jerry Skiff and his colleagues from Anderson spent a day on campus in the Truck and Diesel program providing the latest training to the students. They also attend the career fairs on the Wellsville campus recruiting Truck and Diesel students.

They are also members of the ��Ӱֱ�� State Legacy Society, a special group of benefactors, acting not only for today, but for tomorrow.
