US-News魅影直播 State College鈥檚 reputation continues to grow as proven by its ranking this year in U.S. News and World Report鈥檚 2012 Best Colleges report. 魅影直播 State, which moved up two points, is ranked 25th among the top regional colleges in the North. The exclusive rankings, which include rankings of more than 1,600 schools nationwide, has grown to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities.

"魅影直播 State College is pleased and proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,鈥 said Dr. John M. Anderson, 魅影直播 State College president. 鈥淭he results of these measures are proof that 魅影直播 State is one of the finest institutions of its kind in the nation and that the college鈥檚 strategic plan works! Our faculty and staff continue to work diligently to maintain the margin of excellence of which we鈥檝e been justifiably proud for over 100 years.鈥

Additionally, Anderson noted, 鈥淭he fact that one of the measures used in the rankings includes assessment by administrators at peer institutions indicates to me that we enjoy the respect of our colleagues, and that鈥檚 a great feeling.鈥 (In the peer assessment survey U.S. News asks the president, provost, and dean of admissions at each school to rate the quality of the academic programs for schools in the same ranking category, including their own.)

US News has made some changes to the 2012 Best Colleges鈥 ranking methodology and presentation. This year, rankings categories have been updated: To sort colleges and universities into their appropriate ranking categories, US News used the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching鈥檚 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education 2010 revisions to its highly respected Basic Classification. As a result of this latest revision, many colleges have switched ranking categories and some schools have been added to the rankings for the first time. These category changes were the main explanation for the biggest movements in this year鈥檚 rankings.

For the first time, US News has included in the rankings all for-profit colleges and universities that grant bachelor鈥檚 degrees and are regionally accredited and where eligible to be ranked, if they met the specific US News ranking criteria to be included in the Best Colleges rankings.
