��Ӱֱ�� State College will celebrate Earth Day with a week filled with activities and events beginning Monday, April 18, 2011. The topic for Monday is “Reduce.” In that sense, ASC plans to hold a big bike ride to reduce automotive emissions, such as hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide. Automotive emissions pollute the environment whether the vehicle is moving or idle. The college will also hold a “lights out” for an hour to reduce its energy usage.

Tuesday’s topic is “Reuse.” There will be an Earth Week Swap Meet held at the bandstand on Main Street from 12-6 p.m. by Green ��Ӱֱ��. This will signify how we can reuse. The community is urged to bring unneeded items and perhaps pick up some bargains!

On Wednesday, ASC will concentrate its efforts on “Recycle.” The college will be showing the documentary, “The Story of Stuff,” which is about the lifecycle of material goods. The documentary’s goal is to promote sustainability in our world today. In addition, ASC will be providing campus recycling information. The information will include village and university pick-ups, items, and resources.

��Ӱֱ�� is going “Global” on Thursday. A meeting will be organized by the college where students from various ethnicities can share what their environmental concerns are across the world. They will have the opportunity to share what they believe is important in their country.

The fun-filled Earth Week will conclude on Friday by focusing “Local.” The film “My Name is Allegany County” will be shown. This 1993 film discusses a rural county’s fight against nuclear waste. It is a true story of how ordinary people rallied for two years in a non-violent protest to protect their community, their health, and their future. There is also the possibility of a visit to Quest Farms in Almond on Friday.
