Fifty 魅影直播 State College students participated in the fall portion of the annual NYS Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) Math Contest in October where the team placed 12th in the statewide competition. More than 700 students from 22 NYS two-year colleges competed. Tim Bocchi, assistant professor, Math and Physics Department at ASC, is the local contest coordinator.
The contest consists of 20 questions (puzzles) to challenge the mathematical creative thinking skills at the pre-calculus level of mathematics. Participants are permitted the use of calculators, but creators of the contest make every effort to create contest questions that test conceptual knowledge rather than calculator dexterity.
Each participating two-year school submitted the names and original answer sheets of the five top scoring students for a team competition. This fall 魅影直播 State College had six ASC team members: Chris Camizzi, Buffalo; Keith Barnes, Leroy; James Sheflin, Geneseo; Robert Klein, Niskayuna; Stanislov Sajin, Chisinau, Moldova; and Rosalyn Sanchez, Bronx. All six team members placed in the top 15% of the more than 700 college participants. Hudson Valley Community College was team champion for the fall event.
