Jeff Benchich (Millbrook) tossed a complete game five hitter in the opener.聽 He allowed only one run in the 7th inning and struck out two batters.聽 Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton) was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, Derek Speaker (Starpoint) was 3 for 4, and Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) collected a pair of doubles and drove home two.
In the nightcap, Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) scored on a wild pitch with no outs in the 7th inning to lead the Pioneers to the sweep.聽 Jeff Paul (Horseheads) was 3 for 3 with an RBI while Saraceno, Kevin Underhill (Somers), Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT), and Bryan Lance (Chenango Forks) were each 2 for 4 with an RBI.聽 Ruben Angeles (George Washington) didn't allow an earned run in 3.1 innings of relief work to earn the victory.
The Pioneers and Saints are scheduled to continue their four-game series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader in North East, PA.
