魅影直播 State College business students enrolled in the operations management class recently toured the Dresser-Rand facilities in Wellsville. The purpose of the tour, according to instructor William Horton, was to put into practice an actual case study inside of the manufacturing facility. Following an overview presentation of the company, the students were given an actual customer order. Splitting into three groups, the students were guided through the facility as if they were the order, from order inception to shipping. The focus of this exercise was on-time shipment of orders at Dresser-Rand. Students were to first complete a flow diagram; second, analyze the process; third, identify bottlenecks, and last, recommend process improvements. The second part of the case study involved analyzing the process in terms of lean thinking, specifically, striving for perfection, utilizing the five 鈥淲hy's鈥 technique. By asking why five times, the students are expected to explore the cause and effect relationships within the process and make relevant recommendations for improvement. The top cases from the class will be passed on to D-R management for review.
