Hundreds of visitors converged on campus during
Homecoming/Family Weekend and enjoyed a variety of activities designed to
entertain and delight those who participated.
Activities began Thursday night with dodge ball under the lights. Students and faculty
participated in an evening game of dodge ball on the new field. ASC
students were victorious over faculty and staff. Winners received special team
tee-shirts! Prizes were awarded for the best team uniform, the biggest fan
club, and best team spirit!
Activities began to "ramp up" on Friday, when walking tours of campus were conducted
throughout the early evening.聽 The Outdoor Recreation Club (ORC) conducted
a 20-year reunion, where ORC alumni, family, children, and friends arrived
Friday night and stayed through Sunday at Andy and Kathy Bayus' house, the ORC
advisers.聽 Participants enjoyed camping, activities, and fun!
The Athletics Department conducted the Athletic Hall of Fame induction and dinner during which
softball/basketball player Toni Darling (Johnston), baseball player Joe Van
Gorder, and bowler Gerry Cox, were inducted into the 2008 Athletic Hall of Fame
class in a ceremony held in the Allegany Room.
Also, on Friday night, Round Black Ghosts opened for headliner band Rusted Root.聽 Rusted Root, a band from Pittsburgh, PA, is known for its fusion of Grateful Dead-style bluegrass rock
with a strong percussion section that draws from African, Latin American,
Native American, and Middle Eastern influences. Round Black Ghosts' sound is a
meld of alternative, indie, and rock influences.
A Madden Tournament (video game contest) was held in the Pioneer Lounge, challenging students to show off their gaming skills. Games were played on an Xbox 360 as well as a Play station 3; the winners of each gaming system were awarded prize packages from our very own campus store.
Saturday was chock-full of activities, including a historical walking tour of
the Village of 魅影直播.聽 Other activities on Saturday included a Gold Rush get together,
which was a western-themed village located in the Orvis gym, complete with a
mechanical bull, a photo booth, a western shooting gallery, carnival games,
light refreshments, music, and caricatures!
On Saturday, the Pioneers hosted a cross country invitational, welcoming Region
III rivals Erie CC, Finger Lakes CC, Broome CC, and Hudson Valley CC in their
annual home meet. Lackawanna College and Division I college Belmont Abbey also
competed.
The ASC men's soccer team tangled with the Jefferson CC Cannoneers.
ASC came away victorious in men's soccer, and men's cross country, with a first-place
finish in the women's cross country race, and played gallant games in women's
soccer.
魅影直播 State conducted its own crazy version of Hollywood Squares featured the antics of several ASC faculty and staff members. Sororities and fraternities went head-to-head in this
ASC-oriented game show.聽 (The sororities emerged victorious in this
contest!)
ASC women's soccer team played its first home contest of the season and the first ever women's soccer game on the new athletic complex against Jefferson CC.
Prior to the start of the football game, tailgaters were treated to an outdoor barbecue featuring the locally famous Stearn's chicken and all the expected side dishes. Most diners availed themselves of the seating in the (dry) tent.聽聽 Additional entertainment
included music provided by WETD, ASC Trivia, giveaways, and prizes.
The ASC Pioneer football team met the Erie CC Kats in the first ever on-campus evening football game in program history. The game featured a ceremonial coin toss by college president Dr. John
Anderson, a halftime performance by the Wellsville High School marching band, a
halftime field goal kicking contest, and post-game fireworks. It was a game
gallantly played with a disappointing outcome for ASC.
Richie Byrne, a comedian with high energy, an accomplished actor and singer, Richie's
versatility lent itself to audiences of all ages.
Sunday was capped by ASC athlete alumni "taking on" the current players in softball, lacrosse, and baseball.
Additionally, ASC College President Dr. John M. Anderson announced
the winners of the President's College Spirit Challenge:聽 Drama Club which
was present and cheered ASC teams on聽at every athletic event and took
first and received $500. 聽The Black Student Union took second place and
received $250.
