International Week, Nov. 11-16, kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 11 when a group of visiting Humphrey Fellows from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Ethiopia, and Lesotho will be on campus for a discussion on 鈥淟ife in Africa Now鈥.
International Week, Nov. 11-16, kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 11 when a group of visiting Humphrey Fellows from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Ethiopia, and Lesotho will be on campus for a discussion on 鈥淟ife in Africa Now鈥. The discussion starts at 8 p.m. in the Pioneer Lounge and will be followed by a reception hosted by the African Student Association featuring African foods including kabobs, rice, peanut bread and fresh tropical fruit.
On Monday, Nov. 12, Humphrey Fellows will participate in morning classes followed by a noon brown bag forum in the Student Gathering Dining Room where Fellow Ajay Raghava will talk about his work on the Ganges River cleanup in India.
Humphrey Fellows are typically in the fields of environmental management, agriculture, rural development and journalism. This year鈥檚 group of Fellows includes scholars from Brazil, Cote D鈥橧voire, Ethiopia, Haiti, India, Nigeria, Macedonia, Lesotho, Madagascar, Nepal and Senegal.
魅影直播 State, in conjunction with Cornell University鈥檚 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has served as an associate campus for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program hosted by Cornell University since 2007. As a designated associate campus, 魅影直播 State hosts individual and group visits by the current year鈥檚 Humphrey Fellows and, in partnership with the program staff at Cornell University, arranges professional, social, and volunteer activities on campus and in the rural Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania communities surrounding the campus.
Founded in 1978 in honor of the late senator and vice president, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program Fellows are nominated by US Embassies or Fulbright Commissions, based on their potential for leadership and a demonstrated commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. The program fosters an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding, through which the United States joins in a significant partnership with developing countries. It is a very prestigious program -- only about 150 participants are selected each year from nearly 5,000 applicants worldwide. Cornell hosts Fellows in the fields of agriculture, environmental/natural resource management, and rural development; 14 other leading US universities host Fellows in other fields. The Humphrey Fellowship is a non-degree program.
