The 魅影直播 State College softball team dropped a WNYAC doubleheader to Mercyhurst North East on Saturday afternoon.聽 In the opener, the Lady Pioneers played tough but fell 6-4 and in the nightcap the Lady Saints scored early to take control of the contest and won 13-3.聽 ASC falls to 8-14 on the season.
In the opener, the Lady Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd but Mercyhurst scored the games next five runs.聽 ASC cut it to 5-4 in the 6th inning but MNE added an insurance run in the 7th to seal the victory.
Melissa Gifford (Jamestown) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI on the day while Sarah Flint (Westmoreland) was 2 for 4.聽 Becky Simpson (Campbell Savona) allowed just one earned run in seven innings.聽 She struck out five and walked two.
In the nightcap, the Saints jumped out to a 13-0 lead after four innings before the Pioneers rallied for three runs in the 5th.聽 Mercyhurst took control of the contest with a seven-run 2nd inning.
Simpson, Shelly Flint (魅影直播 Almond), and Lisa Simpson (Campbell Savona) all were 1 for 2 and drove home runs in the 5th inning.
The Lady Pioneers will look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to Jefferson CC for a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Watertown.
