Mitch Wensel (Corning East) last season's leading scorer returns to anchor the attack.聽 He scored 21 goals and passed out six assists last season.聽 Head Coach Todd Weil (3rd season, 10-15) will look to Ryan Grogran (Churchville Chili) and Bill Ardolino (William Floyd) to also play key roles in the offensive attack.聽 Grogan was a 1st team All-Monroe County selection last season.聽 Nicholas Vissichelli (William Floyd) will also contribute to the attack.
In the midfield, Bill Jolly (Waterloo) returns after scoring 18 goals and passing out four assists last season.聽 He will be lined up with former high school teammate Josh Mateo and Brandon Moyer (Cazenovia).聽 Moyer recorded 71 tackles this fall as a member of the football team.
Matt Hassett (Jamesville-DeWitt), a member of the NYS Class B state champs last year, along with Churchville Chili teammates Cory Mee and Ben Rossignolo will also be counted on to provide offense from the midfield position.
Casey Chase (Salamanca), Trevor Wolf (East Aurora), and Greg Rollo (Vestal) will play in the defensive midfield.聽 Chase scored two goals and passed out an assist last season.
Returner Craig Smith (Mynderse) along with Jonathan Rivers (Saratoga Springs), Dominic Dillard (Syracuse/Henninger), and Michael DelZoppo (Grand Island) will also contribute in the midfield.
Joe Fiacchi (Marcellus), a returning starter on defense, will team with Scott More (East Aurora) and Mitch Mertel (Churchville Chili) on the defense.聽 More returns after sitting out last season due to injury.聽 Coach Weil will also count on Mitch Conklin (Riverhead)聽Brendan Walker (Bridgeport, CT), and Cameron Gray (Salamanca) to solidfy the defense.
Deljae Edwards (Syracuse/Nottingham) and Jeff Fabbri (West Warwick, RI) are battling for the starting spot in goal.聽 Edwards appeared in four games last year and made 43 saves while Fabbri comes to the lacrosse field after playing football in the fall.
The Pioneers are scheduled to play three non-region games (home versus Elmira and the annual trip to Maryland for two contests) to open up the season before beginning Region III play in late March.聽 The schedule features 11 regional contests (five聽to be played on the聽new聽lacrosse field)聽with the first round of playoff on April 29th.
