The 魅影直播 State College men's swimming team聽won the聽non-scholarship title at the NJCAA National Championships.聽 The Pioneers racked up 233 points to top the non-scholarship schools and finish 5th overall.聽 The women scored 82 points to finish 9th out of 15 teams.
Alex Newell (Binghamton) finished 5th in the 200 back (2:03.80) and was part of the 400 free relay team that finished 5th (3:24.54).聽 The 5th place finish in the relay clinched the non-scholarship title for the Blue and Gold.聽 Newell teamed with Dan Langworthy (Peekskill), Paul Congdon (Bath), and Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda).
The Pioneers had three swimmers place in the 200 breast.聽 Kozlowski finished 7th (2:20.68), Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell) finished 10th (2:31.15), and Sean Valvano (Newark) was 13th (2:33.70).
Congdon finished 11th in 200 fly (2:18.52) while Kevin Minderlein (Salesianum) finished 14th in the 1650 free (20:00.39).
On the women's side Kaitlyn Corbett (Clarence) finished 6th in the 200 back while Jessica Chan (New Hyde Park) finished 12th in the 100 free (1:00.94).
The host Indian River CC won both the men's and women's overall titles.聽 魅影直播's men's 233 points was 21 more than non-scholarship schools Ocean (NJ) CC and Erie CC.聽 Genesee CC won the women's non-scholarship title with 290 points.
Day Three Recap: Newell recorded the best individual result thus far of the championships.聽 He finished 6th in the 100 back with a swim of 57.36.聽
Kozlowski broke the school record in the 400 IM.聽 He finished in 7th place with a time of 4:30.29. Congdon finished 11th in the 100 fly (59.82), Valenta finished 11th in the 400 IM (5:02.50), and Langworthy finished 16th in the 200 free (1:54.87).
The men's 200 free relay team of Langworthy, Kozlowski, Congdon, and Newell finished 6th (1:32.25) while the 200 medley relay team of Newell, Valenta, Congdon, and Langworthy finished 7th (1:46.57).
All three Lady Pioneers placed in their events on Friday.聽 Chan finished 7th in the 100 fly (1:58.55), Corbett finished 8th in the 200 free (2:09.67) and 9th in the 100 back (1:07.32), and Becca Mastasio (Livonia) finished 9th in the 100 breast (1:21.94).
Day Two Recap: Newell finished 9th in the 500 freestyle in 4:54.76 while Kozlowski finished 11th with a swim of 5:01.94.
Chan finished 9th in the 200 IM (2:28.68) while Mastasio (Livonia) finished 10th in the 500 free (5:57.80).
Day One Recap: The 400 medley team of Newell, Valvano, Kozlowski, and Langworthy finished in 4th place with a swim of 3:52.23.
