Spencer PeaveyOn March 3, Spencer Peavey, director of Student Activities and Orientation at 魅影直播 State, presented 鈥淢aking IT Happen, Encouraging Student Connections and Civic Engagement鈥 to the attendees of the National Orientation Directors Association in Burlington, VT. Peavey highlighted the steps that 魅影直播 State has taken to incorporate leadership through Civic Engagement in its Orientation and transition programs.

The National Orientation Directors Association was chartered in 1976 and continues the tradition of orientation, retention, and transition professionals who have met annually for over 40 years. The NODA conference in Burlington, VT, included institutions from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, and New York (including eight other SUNY schools).

As director of Student Activities and Orientation, Peavey is responsible for directing, implementing, and assessing student extra-curricular activities as well as new student orientation programs at the College. Peavey has been a member of NODA since 2003 and has held several leadership positions within the professional organization.

Also attending the conference with 10 of his students, orientation coordinators Shelby Gadsden, sports management, Olean, and Zac Carlson, business administration, Tonawanda, helped facilitate the presentation with Peavey, adding insight on leadership initiatives within Greek life and student organization development.

Peavey holds a master鈥檚 degree in counseling from St. Bonaventure and a bachelor of liberal arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
