The 魅影直播 State College baseball team opens up their 2010 season on Thursday when they take on ASA Institute (Brooklyn, NY) in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneers are coming off an 8-6 fall season.

The 魅影直播 State College baseball team opens up their 2010 season on Thursday when they take on ASA Institute (Brooklyn, NY) in Cocoa, FL.  The Pioneers are coming off an 8-6 fall season.

Sophomores Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) and Jake Dale (Keshequa) will be counted on to be leaders for the blue & gold.  Ciccotti was 3-1 this spring with a 0.52 ERA in 34.2 innings of work.  He held opponents to just a .197 batting average while striking out 32 batters.  Dale led the Pioneers with a .350 batting average and 8 RBI this fall.  He will be in the middle of the order most everyday and play 3B, OF, and catch.

Sophomores Brian Zimmermann (Frontier), Stevie Smith (Hornell) along with freshmen Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan), JP Frey (Erie, PA), and Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) will be counted on in the line-up.  Zimmermann was second on the team this fall with a .325 average while Smith hit .298.  Joe Wallace (Avoca) returns to for his final season at ASC and will be asked to contribute in all fascets of the game.

The 2010 schedule begins with a 13-game trip to Cocoa Expo and includes games versus teams from New York, New Jersey, Iowa, North Dakota, Massachusetts, and Ohio.  The team returns home and travels to Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Ohio before beginning Region III Division II play.  ASC will battle regional foes Monroe CC, Mercyhurst North East, and Genesee CC in four-game series and will host the Regional Tournament May 7-9.  The winner of regionals will host the East District Tournament with the chance to advance to the NJCAA Division II Tournament.
