The 魅影直播 State College baseball team downed Mercyhurst North East 13-8 in the Region III Division II Tournament to keep their season alive but fell 9-6 to Monroe CC in the loser bracket final to see their season end with a 20-20 record.
Mercyhurst North East led 5-1 after five innings but the Pioneers scored the games next 12 runs to take control of the contest. ASC collected 11 hits and drew 10 walks on the day.
JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) led the way with a 3 for 6, 3 RBI performance while Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) and Ryan Barkley (Penn Yan) each were 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Jake Dale (Keshequa) finished 2 for 4 with a RBI and Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) drove home two. Tyler Ward (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) went the distance allowing three earned runs. He walked two and struck out four.
Versus Monroe, the Tribunes led 7-3 heading into the 8th before the Pioneers scored three in the 8th to close it to 7-6. Kevan Smith (Cicero North Syracuse) had a key two-RBI double and Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) scored on a throwing error.
After MCC added two more runs to their lead, ASC sent the tying run to the plate with one out in the 9th but was unable to produce any more offense.
Smith finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Zimmermann was 2 for 5 with a lead-off homer in the 1st, and Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) was 2 for 4 with a RBI. Kyle Barkley added two hits on the day as well.
魅影直播 State's Kyle Barkley and Zimmermann were both named to the All-Tournament team following the completion of games. Monroe CC defeated Genesee CC twice on Sunday to claim their 6th straight championship.
