Pioneers Tripped up by Genesee

Genesee CC scored four runs in the 7th inning to rally for a 8-7 victory in game one and then held on for a 4-2 victory in game two to sweep 魅影直播 State in a Region III Division II doubleheader.  ASC falls to 14-13 (1-3 RIII DII) while GCC improves to 11-10 (3-1 RIII DII).

Kevin Daniels hit a three-run homer with out in the top of the 7th inning to cap a four run inning that erased a 7-4 Pioneer lead. ASC had broken a 4-4 tie with a single run in the 5th inning and two more in the 6th.

Joe Wallace (Avoca) and Anthony Espe (Union Endicott) were each 2 for 3 with an RBI while Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) and JP Frey (Erie, PA) were 2 for 4.

In the nightcap, Genesee jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a single run in the 3rd and three more in the 4th inning before the Pioneers registered a hit.  Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) broke up Zach Leitten's no-hitter in the 5th with a solo homer.  Kevan Smith (Cicero North Syracuse) singled home Joe Wallace (Avoca) a couple batters later to cut the lead to 4-2.

ASC was held to just four hits, wasting a solid effort on the mound by Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads).  Ciccotti allowed seven hits and three earned runs in sevn innings of work.  He walked two and struck out three.  Leitten struck out four and allowed just one earned run in the complete game victory for GCC.

The blue & gold return to action on Tuesday when they host the JV squad from Ithaca College.  First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
