Q & A with Sherelle Brooks

In this week's Q & A we sat down with sophomore guard on the women's basketball team, Sherelle Brooks.�� One of only three returning players from last year's team, Brooks averages almost seven points and four assists per game.

What are some of your personal and team goals for this season?�� My personal goal for this team this season is to step up and be a leader. Our team is very young and we really do not have the expierence. I feel that with hard work our team can be very good. Everyone has to play their role in order for us to win. Last year our team made it to the final four but we lost to Jamestown, so this year I want to make it past the final four and hopefully all the way.

What attracted you to ��Ӱֱ�� State?�� Coach Boyd attracted me to ��Ӱֱ�� State. She reminded me so much of my high school coach. She understands the game and knows what she is doing. She also looks out for us and pushes us to do��well in school.

Describe what it is like to play with a family member on the team.�� My whole life I grew up playing basketball with my sister and cousin. Through the years we built this bond that no one can ever take. To play with a family member in college is awesome. Even if our team does not bond or click than I know�� I have some type of bond with my family member.

What do you do to get motivated for a big game?�� To get motivated before a big game: I listen to music, hype music to get pumped up for the game. I also scream and act real loud. That tends to work sometimes.

Coach Boyd said you need to be one of the team's leaders, how do you handle that responsibility?�� I think that sometimes I handle it well, whether it is in practice or during a game. Sometimes I also let my attitude get the best of me and that is not good at all. This is something that I personally need to work on.

Which would you rather have, 20 points or 10 assists?�� I personally would rather have 10 assists than 20 points. I like to pass, I really do not like to score unless I have to. The feeling of making a beautiful pass and having that person finish is great.

Who has been your biggest influence?�� The biggest influence that has been in my life has to be my grandmother. She always motivated me to do my best and told me never to give up. Through everythiing she has been there supporting me no matter what decisions I make. She passed away 2 years ago, that was hard on me because she was my motivation and my support. I hope that I can make her proud.
