Sophomore cross country athlete Brandon Lewis (Red Creek) answered some questions from the Sports Information department to give an insight to being a student-athlete at ��Ӱֱ�� State.

What is your level of satisfaction so far this season with your performance?

The season has gone very well so far. A few injuries during preseason made for a hard start but thanks to the great athletic trainer here at ��Ӱֱ�� State College I was able to heal up and get back on track. Not only has the season gone very well for me but it is going very well for the team as a whole. Coach Moore has been having us do some great workouts that are helping us a lot. We have a very strong group of guys this year and I am seeing good things happening at the regional and national championships.

What is your favorite style of Cross Country course?

To be honest, I like courses that are really hilly or really flat. I like hilly ones because it tests the mind of a runner. When you run a hilly course you have to find that special mentality that tells you to push yourself through the pain. I also like really flat courses because when you run a flat course you get to see what kind of speed you have. Most runners when they run a flat course for the first time are very surprised with how well their time is. And when you see that time it gives you self satisfaction that tells you that you really can do it.

Who has been your biggest influence for running Cross Country?

This is a tough question. I have had many influences in my running career but if I had to choose one I would have to say my mother. She has supported me ever since I started running in high school. No matter where the race was or how much a road race costs to enter, she would be there if work didn’t interfere.

What is your major here at ��Ӱֱ�� State College? Why did you choose this major?

I major in Heating and Air Conditioning Technology. I chose this program because when I was in high school I worked for a heating and air conditioning contractor for three summers and it just interested me. I like to figure out how something works and figure out the problem when it doesn’t work. I also have always like working with tools and doing hands on projects.

If you could go any where in the world where would it be?

If I could choose anywhere in the world I would have to choose Italy. I have always wanted to go there and see the streets of water and see the difference in their culture over there then here. I also would love to try all there pasta over there.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be to coach cross country and track and field. I think it would be awesome to watch athletes develop their running skill over time and see how they push themselves to the max. I think that for a coach, to watch an athlete work hard week after week for a certain goal, and when they reach and then exceed that goal, it has to give a coach a special feeling inside. I think that feeling is what coaching is all about.
