Erie took a 16-0 lead with eight minutes in the 1st half聽behind聽a 19-yard field goal by Jarratt Dill, a 21-yard pass play from Ammar Dyson to Nick Barksdale, and a 2-yard run by Dyson.
DeAndre Johnson (Detroit, MI) got the Blue & Gold on the board with 6:57 remaining in the half when he darted in from 15-yards out.聽 The touchdown was set up by a 46-yard kickoff return by Jason Brand (Springfield, VA).
Erie took advantage of two Pioneer turnovers in the 3rd quarter to up their lead to 28-7.聽 Brian Fowler dove scored from 4-yards out with 13:18 remaining and then Dyson scored from 3-yards out at 7:30.
ASC made it interesting by scoring two touchdowns in a span of 1:36 in the 3rd quarter.聽 Johnson scored for the second time in the game from 3-yards out with 4:49 remaining and Josh Griffin (Englewood, NJ) caught a 18-yard pass from Geoff Hicks (Cleveland Hill) with 3:13 remaining.
Erie was able to add to their lead in the 4th quarter by taking advantage of two more turnovers.聽 Dill hit a 32-yard field goal with 10:09 remaining in the contest and then Fowler dashed in from 32-yards to cap the scoring.
Fowler finished the day with 193 yards on 27 carries and two scores as the Kats offense rushed for 288 yards on the day.聽 The ECC offense finished with 329 yards of total offense.
Johnson led the Pioneers with 93 yards and two scores on 14 carries and 52 yards receiving while Hicks finished with 126 yards passing and a score.聽 Griffin caught two passes for 64 yards and a score.聽 A-State was held to 170 yards of total offense but was聽slowed by four fumbles and three interceptions.
Michael Gee (Englewood, NJ) led the Pioneer defense with 10 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.聽 Matt Perry (Belle Vernon, PA) added nine tackles while Robert Edmonds (Clinton, MD) chipped in eight tackles.聽 Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) picked off a pass and recovered a fumble while Damion King (Detroit, MI), Brendan Walker (Bridgeport, CT) finished with seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
Durfey Wells led Erie with eight tackles and an interception.聽 Quintin Sumpter and Blayther Sabbat also picked off passes for the Kats.
The Pioneers hit the road for the first time in 2008 when they travel to Media, PA to play a non-conference tilt with Williamson College.聽 Kick-off versus the Mechanics is scheduled for 1 p.m.
