Rated PG-13 because of mature thematic elements involving teen suicide, teen drinking, some drug content, disturbing images, and sexuality, To Save A Life illustrates how some teens are 鈥渄ying to be heard.鈥
The movie tells the story of Jake and Roger who grew up as best friends, doing everything together. But in high school, Jake becomes a star athlete who has it all: a college scholarship and the perfect girl, an ideal life that comes at the exclusion of his childhood friend. Meanwhile, Roger no longer fits in anywhere and becomes tired of always being pushed aside. He makes a tragic move that spins Jake鈥檚 world out of control. As Jake searches for answers, he begins a journey that will change his life forever.
The film raises the following questions: How far would you go? How much would you risk? How hard would you fight? ...To Save A Life.
Because teens today are hurting and facing challenges like never before, To Save A Life doesn't shy away from tough topics. It deals with social divisions, school violence, cutting, suicide, teen pregnancy and divorce鈥搉ot in a graphic way, but in a way authentic to too many teens' real lives. And it points to a way out of these problems through reaching out to others. Ultimately, it asks the question "What's my life going to be about?" and dares teens to answer with boldness, honesty, and open-handedness. People who have seen the film realize that a film cannot change the world, but they can change the lives of those around them. It鈥檚 the difference you can make when you use your influence and time for others 鈥 whether in your family, neighborhood, campus, community or world. Some people are just dying to be heard and accepted. Imagine if we took the time to show people they have value.
