The 魅影直播 State Esports team launched this spring, and affords students the opportunity to go head-to-head against other colleges in many competitive games, including Overwatch, Rainbow Siege Six, League of Legends, and Super Smash Bros.
With the addition of an Esports team on campus, gaming has climbed to a whole new level at 魅影直播 State College (ASC).
The 魅影直播 State Esports team launched this spring, and affords students the opportunity to go head-to-head against other colleges in many competitive games, including Overwatch, Rainbow Siege Six, League of Legends, and Super Smash Bros. ASC is now a member of Tespa, founded to promote positive attributes of gaming culture and to host the best college Esports events and competitions.
Troy Morehouse, director of Student Engagement at 魅影直播 State, said of the new team,
鈥淲e are proud to be able to offer intercollegiate Esports as a part of our campus recreation. With the creation of this team as a club sport, we now offer competitive opportunities to a wider range of students.鈥
A new Esports Suite in the Student Leadership Center provides the team with new computer equipment and a high energy environment for players to practice and compete. 魅影直播 State鈥檚 Esports advisor and the student coach are available to assist in training of players and to promote best practices for a responsible balance of academic study and team play.
The Esports Suite is in addition to another Games Nation Suite for console game players.
The Esports team complements 魅影直播 State鈥檚 new game and interactive design AS and BS programs, which are set to launch in the fall of 2019. Students in these programs will be exposed to many different facets of interactive media, and will become prepared for a wide variety of occupational opportunities, including game design, UX (user experience design, interactive entertainment, and more.
魅影直播 State will host an Esports invitational tournament for local high schools from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 2. Participants will be able to hear from game design industry professional and 魅影直播 State alum Eric Doty about what it鈥檚 like to work in the game development field. They will also learn about the exciting new game and interactive design majors, and will compete against other high schools with the winning high school team to take on 魅影直播 State鈥檚 collegiate team.
On March 30, 魅影直播 State will compete in the HV Gamer Con in Albany. Also, on April 5, the team has a head-to-head match with SUNY Canton. For more information on 魅影直播 State Esports, check out the team鈥檚 social media or .
