More than 91 outstanding scientific projects by students from 12 area school districts were featured in 魅影直播 State鈥檚 21st annual Regional Science and Technology Fair.
Participating districts included Houghton Academy, Portville, Cassadaga Valley, Bolivar-Richburg, Friendship, Hornell Intermediate, Lima Christian School, Prattsburgh, Saint Ann`s Academy, 魅影直播-Almond, Southern Tier Catholic, and Archbishop Walsh.
A total of 106 students presented 91 science and technology projects to the judges for a chance at a share of the $1675 in prize money. Participants were divided into three divisions: senior (grades 9-12), junior (grades 7-8), and novice (grades 4-6).
Winners in the senior division included first-place winner ($250) Caydence Zalwsky from Portville with 鈥淪ounds of the Body,鈥 second-place winner ($150) Kaitlyn Williams from Portville with 鈥淏imetallic Charger,鈥 and third-place winner ($100) Regina Tkacik from Portville with 鈥淭his Bone Hertz.鈥
Winners in the junior division included first-place winner ($250) Rose Scordo from Southern Tier Catholic with 鈥淏anana DNA,鈥 second-place winner ($150) Ava Harrison from Houghton Academy with 鈥淲hich Generation Gets a Better Grade on a Middle School Science Test?鈥, and third-place winner ($100) Gavin Martino from Houghton Academy with 鈥淣ot a Soft Drink After All.鈥
Winners in the novice division included first-place winner ($100) Nicholas Gray from Houghton Academy with 鈥淏reaking Point,鈥 second-place winner ($50) John Neeson from Southern Tier Catholic with 鈥5 Second Rule,鈥 and third-place winners ($25) Morgan Holcomb and Madison Rondeau from Friendship with 鈥淓lephant Toothpaste.鈥
The grand prize ($500) went to Catherine Pryzbyla from Archbishop Walsh with 鈥淒oes Exercise Affect Memory?鈥.
The People鈥檚 Choice Award ($50 Gift Certificate) went to Kylee Little, Liberty Stevens, and Lydia McGraw from Saint Ann`s Academy with 鈥淭he Hacked Marble Run.鈥
Winning Outstanding School awards were Southern Tier Catholic (novice division), Houghton Academy (junior division), and Portville (senior division). All Outstanding School winners received a silver tray.
Each participant received a certificate of participation, and individual ribbons were presented to first-, second-, and third-place prize winners in all divisions. The Science and Technology Fair was sponsored by Otis Eastern of Wellsville, with additional funding provided by ACES, Thermo-Fisher Scientific, 魅影直播 State Student Senate, 魅影直播 State Science Society Club, the Physical and Life Sciences Department, Wards Scientific, 魅影直播 State Admissions, and the School of Arts and Sciences Dean`s Office.
Additionally, about 80 volunteers consisting of faculty, staff, students, community members, and alumni assisted with the fair. 魅影直播 State thanks everyone who helped make the 21st annual Regional Science and Technology Fair possible.
