Kaytlin Cottrell (Manchester Shortsville, NY) created her own path during her time at ��Ӱֱ�� State. She transferred into interdisciplinary studies and has carved out a knowledge base that has her excited about her future.

“I chose ��Ӱֱ�� State because they made me feel the most at home. They offered me a spot in the ASEP program so I could come here straight out of high school, I would not have to go to community college first.”

Kaytlin started her academic career as a veterinary tech and agricultural technology double major but realized that interdisciplinary studies was a better fit for her. 

“With interdisciplinary studies I can pick classes of different interests that I have. My main interests are in psychology and sociology. It is like I am making my own career, making my own degree.”

She has enjoyed the flexibility of her major. “It is so diverse, you can have labs some semesters, in-person classes, or take online classes. Being able to really make my schedule is what I have enjoyed.”

Becoming part of the campus community has added immensely to Kaytlin’s experience. She has been part of the Cultural Life Center, the Campus Activities Board, Residential Life, Student Senate, and the sorority, Zeta Psi Omega.

“It builds community, and you really get your voice out there and can learn different things from different people that you might not have encountered otherwise.”

The relationships with role models around campus have been key to Kaytlin. “They all provide their own perspective and their own value to my life, but they also push me to continue to do the things I want to do and follow my dreams.”

Experiences within her residential life employment have made her excited about the future. “I realized I am more of a people person that I originally thought I was. I love helping people and being an advocate. I feel like I can use my voice to help them.”

Kaytlin came to ��Ӱֱ�� and fell in love with the community.
