Will Banner (Brockport, NY) ran a forklift working at a Wegman’s warehouse and enjoyed it, so he enrolled at ��Ӱֱ�� State to study Heavy Equipment Operations.

“I thought I would be good at it. I really like how the program gives you so many hands-on experiences, real life situations that I will see outside school when I graduate.”

Will and his classmates have taken part in a trench collapse, a water main break, and have worked with the college’s heavy equipment simulators just this semester. “I think it adds to everybody’s resumes. We can say we have done them, and it makes everybody look a lot better.”

The professors have added to Will’s experience at ��Ӱֱ�� State. “They look out for your best interest. If you are a worker, they have your back all the time. We have so much equipment to work with here and the teachers really fight for us and make us feel supported.”

Will shares his knowledge with others in his role working in the Student Leadership Center on the ��Ӱֱ�� Campus. “I work in the hopper. Other students can come in and get their oil changed, wash and detail their car, and I can show them how to do it.”

He also helps with the set-up and tear down for events around campus and spends a couple of hours a week at the help desk. All these jobs have helped him meet and make new friends.

“Being an older student I did not really have too many options when I first came but I have really met some great kids. Student life is rather good here on campus.”

��Ӱֱ�� State has given Will real life experiences, and he cannot wait to get to work to show off his skills.
