Leilani Sloan (Brockport, NY) wants to make a difference and with her Human Service Management degree from ��Ӱֱ�� State she feels she is prepared to do so.

“I chose ��Ӱֱ�� State because it is close to home and it had a good program. I want to help people and make an impact on people in our world today.”

Leilani enjoys the small class size that allows her to collaborate with her classmates while they learn new things. She has also been able to put her learning into action with practicums.

“For my first practicum I decided to organize a food drive on campus. I was able to get clubs and or-ganizations involved and it was successful. I was also able to work with student engagement and put on first year programming allowing students to feel connected to their home away from home.”

She feels prepared to work in the field with the hope of working for Child Protective Services as a so-cial worker. “I am attracted to social work because I always wanted to be the person that I needed when I was younger.”

Leilani has benefited from the resources that the college offers and encourages others to utilize them. “We have the Student Success Center, the Math Lab, the Writing Lab, and a lot of other aca-demic resources that you can utilize on campus.” 

Outside the classroom, she works as an admissions ambassador, ran on the track and field team, and joined a sorority last spring. “The girls made me feel comfortable and it found me another con-necting piece to others on campus.”

��Ӱֱ�� State is supporting Leilani so that she can help others in her future.
