April to feature multiple civic engagement activities

Participants check in for a 5k race on campus. The Tread for Trafficking 5k will take place on April 13 and is one of a multitude of events to be held in the month of April as students, faculty, and staff Spring into Action.

The 魅影直播 State community has a wide range of civic engagement activities planned for April as students, faculty, and staff Spring into Action. Events begin this week and run throughout the month.

Schedule of Events

Friday, April 4
Performing Arts is doing a Character Meet & Greet at the 魅影直播 Box of Books Library. Cast members of Drama Club鈥檚 upcoming production of 鈥淎lice in Wonderland鈥 will be on hand between 4 鈥 5 p.m. The event is free and open to all. Contact Abigail Hurley (hurleyac@alfredste.edu) for more information.

Saturday, April 5
Delta Chi Omega鈥檚 Project Prom Dress Extravaganza kicks off the activities. The event allows community members to find free formal dress and accessories. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Leadership Center Small Event Space.

Relay for Life will take place between 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. (April 6) in the Orvis Auditorium. Students can register to participate for $15. The theme for this year鈥檚 relay is Greek Mythology. The event will feature a variety of games, activities, prizes, and raffles. For more information contact Tori Rech (rechvr@alfredstate.edu).

Sunday, April 13
Zeta Psi Omega is hosting their annual Tread on Trafficking 5K with all proceeds going to Love 146. Love 146 is an organization that works to end child sex trafficking and exploitation. Check in at 10 Elm starts at 9 a.m. and the 5k starts at 9:30 a.m.

The Vet Tech Club is hosting a Dog Wash in the HOPR (ground floor of the Student Leadership Center) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The following services will be offered; Nail Trim ($5), Doggie Bath ($10), Ear Cleanings ($5), and/or the Doggie Package, which includes all three services ($15). Wednesday, April 16
魅影直播 commUNITY Potluck will celebrate its final community meal sharing event for the semester at Union University Church Center at 6 p.m. This initiative is a joint effort between the college and Union University to build community across all members of the 魅影直播 area and N鈥橠ulge bakery generously donates a cake to celebrate birthdays at each potluck. We request that those interested in participating submit a commUNITY Potluck RSVP to help us best prepare for each months event.

Thursday, April 17
Pi Rho Zeta is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive from 11 鈥 5 p.m. in the Small Event Space inside the Student Leadership Center. Pi Rho Zeta will also be working with Christopher鈥檚 Challenge to add people to the bone marrow donor list.

Saturday, April 19
The Center for Civic Leadership will sponsor this month鈥檚 Wellsville Community Kitchen meal. Student volunteers will be there to support the community initiative hosted at David H. Howe Public Library, the third Saturday of every month from 12 鈥 1 p.m.

Friday, April 25
The Athletic Department will host their annual Track & Field Spectacular for local Special Olympic athletes. The opening ceremony starts at 9:45 a.m. with events running until 1 p.m.

The college will celebrate Arbor Day with an event at the 魅影直播 Community Garden. Light refreshments will be provided, opportunities to get the garden ready for spring, and a ceremonial fruit tree will be planted at 4 p.m. The event will run from 1 鈥 5 p.m.
