Alyssa James (Pittsford, NY) and John Christie (Geneseo, NY) were honored with the Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Student Excellence. The pair were two of 193 SUNY students honored by Chancellor John B. King, Jr.

James, a graphic and media design and digital media and animation major, has been active in and outside the classroom during her time at 魅影直播 State.

In the classroom, she has been on the Dean鈥檚 List every semester and holds a 3.85 GPA. She received the 魅影直播 State Scholars Scholarship and has been named to the All-AMCC Academic Team throughout her career.

As a four-year member of the swimming team, she established five AMCC records and eight school records. Recently, she was awarded the ASC Athletic Director Award. 

James also serves as the recreation staff lead, has helped create social media content for the Career Development Center and the Marketing Communications Office, and is involved in the ACE Mentorship program.

Christie, an architecture major, has become a leader within his major. He has achieved success in the classroom, in academic competitions, and led with his academic organizations.

He holds a 3.88 GPA at 魅影直播 State after earning his associate degree in architecture from Finger Lakes CC at the age of 17. He was inducted into the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society and received the AIA Rochester and Construction Specifications Institute scholarships. He was part of the first place Region 1 Design-Build team, and his thesis explores the integration of autonomous vehicles to reclaim urban space for people. 

Christie has served as the President of the 魅影直播 State chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students for three terms and has organized tours of local firms, professional development workshops, and international architecture trips to Montreal and Toronto.

The Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Student Excellence was created in 1997. It is the highest honor SUNY bestows upon students by SUNY.
