ā€œThe Great Raceā€ begins Saturday

Tow truck competes in the Great Race
A team of five ÷ČÓ°Ö±²„ State students will participate in "The Great Race." The race starts on Saturday and will take the students from Minnesota to South Carolina.

A group of ÷ČÓ°Ö±²„ State automotive students will begin ā€œThe Great Raceā€ in St. Paul, MN on Saturday. The team will travel from Minnesota to South Carolina during the nine-day event.

ā€œThe Great Raceā€ is an antique, vintage, and collector car competitive controlled-speed endurance road rally on public highways featuring cars with model years before 1974. It is a test of driver/navigator team’s ability to follow precise course instructions and the cars and team’s ability to endure on a cross-country trip.

Led by Motorsports instructor and Great Race Alum Caryl Koch a team of five students, Reagan Clancy (Rochester, NY), David Hyde (Webster, NY), Jalon Rainey (Buffalo, NY), James Salvatore (Albion, NY), and Morgan Wright (Marathon, NY), will travel the route in a 1953 Dodge Power Wagon tow truck.

÷ČÓ°Ö±²„ State is part of the X-Cup Division of ā€œThe Great Race.ā€ This division features high school and college aged student teams from across the nation. The RPM Foundation helps provide financial support to help with necessary expenses.

The race will travel from Minnesota and go through Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina before finishing at Moore Park in Lake Murray, South Carolina. For more information on the course or the event visit: www.greatrace.com.

÷ČÓ°Ö±²„ State alumni and friends are encouraged to attend one of the lunch or overnight stops along the way. The alumni office will be hosting a finish line reception with the participating students on Sunday, June 29 at the Double Tree Columbia (21 Bush River Rd., Columbia, SC) from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. ()
