A Message
from Admissions

As we wrap up the spring semester, we are excited to share some great updates about what's ahead this summer and fall!

Ӱֱ State continues to deliver exceptional outcomes—an impressive 99% of our graduates are either employed (80%) or continuing their education (19%) shortly after graduation. Even more remarkable, 93% of those employed are working in their field of study, proving that an Ӱֱ State degree leads directly to career-relevant opportunities. Combined with our top-ranked return on investment in the region, it's clear that Ӱֱ State is a smart investment in the future.

We're also excited to introduce three new certificate programs launching this fall: Animal Care Assistant, Licensed Practical Nursing, and Voice Writing (Online).

  • Animal Care Assistant Certificate This program is ideal for students interested in entering the animal care field or preparing for Ӱֱ State's Veterinary Technology AAS program. It provides hands-on experience and foundational skills for employment or continued education in veterinary and animal care-related fields.
  • Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate This hands-on program prepares students to work under the supervision of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, and other health care professionals as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) — gaining real-world experience through clinicals, simulation labs, and skill practice. Upon completion, students are eligible to apply for licensure in New York as an LPN and sit for the NCLEX-PN exam to launch a nursing career.
  • Voice Writing Certificate (Online) This program trains students in the specialized skill of verbatim reporting. Coursework covers voice speed control, transcription software, reporting techniques, and legal documentation procedures—preparing graduates to produce accurate transcripts across diverse legal settings.

If you know students who are still finalizing their college plans, encourage them to apply to Ӱֱ State at www.suny.edu or . While some programs are currently waitlisted, we still have openings in many majors. Fall classes begin August 25, 2025.

We can't wait to share with you and your students all our exciting developments. If you need anything at all, please contact us at 1-800-425-3733 or by email!

Sincerely,
Ӱֱ State Admissions

Ӱֱ State has created a path that has Jessie excited for her future.
Ӱֱ State has created a path that has Jessie excited for her future.

Jessie Marusarz (Perry, NY) enjoyed her art classes in high school and found the Ӱֱ State marketing program to continue to create and make digital content.

“I came to Ӱֱ State because my whole family went here, my parents met here. I also got the chance to play basketball here.”

Jessie feels that she is benefiting from the program's dual focus on principles and creativity. “Learning both the creative and the principle of marketing gives you the real-world experience of what it would be like in marketing. It helps me stand out to have knowledge of both.”

A trip to commerce week in New York City has Jessie excited for her what is ahead. “I got to connect with business professionals, and it was a really good experience seeing digital marketing in the real world.”

The professors have added to her experiences. “The professors are helpful. They are always using real-world examples of marketing and sales to help our transition to becoming professionals.”

Jessie has moved from playing on the basketball team to serving as a student assistant coach. “Basketball really helped me make new friends and fit in. Coaching has helped me with my leadership skills.”

The small-town community is Jessie's favorite part of Ӱֱ. “It is more welcoming to come in to another small town. Making friends is easier.”

Ӱֱ State has created a path that has Jessie excited for her future.

A group of seven Ӱֱ State senior engineering students, Nehemiah Abelard-Johnson, Steffen Burkhardt, Joshua Mekeel, Dominick Scalzo, Elijah Symeslatini, Bee Williams, and Ashleigh Woodcock designed a Marble Run Machine that will be displayed on the ground floor of the Student Leadership Center.

Burkhardt described the project. “The Marble Run Project is a senior engineering project used to demonstrate the abilities of engineering seniors. The idea is that incoming freshmen will come in and see the ability of what the school can do.”

The Rube Goldberg machine has one hundred marbles that continuously loop around a track that includes Ӱֱ State landmarks. The group chose to include the college's iconic bell tower, with bell tolls on the hour and half hour, Pioneer Stadium, and the Theta Gamma House (the University Police Building). The machine also includes the Ӱֱ State “A” as a plinko board, LED lighting, and Big Blue images in multiple spots.

Students put the final touches on the Marble Run Machine.

“Basically, every plastic part in the entire machine is 3D printed,” commented Scalzo. “We had about eight 3D printers running at once, at various times. We printed about everything you can see, all the track clips, all the splitters, Big Blue, the UP house, the football field, everything.”

Symeslatini enjoyed seeing it all come together. “It is just such a fun thing to look at when it is running. The sounds and the lights, it all comes together, and is very satisfying.”

The students along with Professors Alex Bailey and Aric Bryant started the process with a concept during the fall semester. The team tied for first in the senior project poster presentation, judged by members of the Advisory Committee and professors, at the end of the semester.

“A lot of our fall semester was planning,” added Williams. “It was a lot of jotting down ideas on paper to start with and then going on modeling software and figuring out the logistics of different parts. Most of the fall was just actually making sure that everything that we were planning to do was feasible and could be physically done.”

The spring semester featured gathering all the materials and building all the components of the machine.

“My favorite part about this project is that we got to see the machine from absolutely nothing to being able to put every piece together and seeing the whole thing come together,” commented Woodcock. “We were not sure if we were able to do it, but we managed to pull it off.”

The group is quick to add that they did not work on the project along as they benefited from the assistance of underclassmen and professors.

The Bell Tower is one of the landmarks featured in the new Marble Run Machine.

Standing right next to the machine, Burkhardt was proud of what they were able to do with this project. “I feel like we have really shown what you can accomplish within the set bounds and design criteria that we were given for senior projects. I really hope to come back one day and see even greater future senior projects.”

The Marble Run Machine was one of three senior projects designed and presented by engineering students. A group worked on a Baja Car and another group worked on a evacuated tube solar water heater project.

The machine is scheduled to be running daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. A video showing the process of the project will be located right next to the machine soon.

Counselor
Resources

Are you familiar with ? Slate.org helps build strong relationships throughout the entire college admissions process by connecting and sharing information with students, schools, and colleges. All for free.

is a free platform that allows school counseling staff and students to access information about applications, decisions, scholarships, and college events, if the college uses Slate as their CRM. More than 40% of colleges in the US, include 36 SUNY campuses have Slate. Users will need to create an account to access the information, which can take a couple of days.

Once access is granted, school counselors can look at individual college profiles and see lists of students who have applied to each college, and some colleges allow materials to be uploaded via this platform.

is a college search system within Slate.org. Login credentials are not required to use Start.edu, but if they are created it will allow search information to be saved. This system will never share/sell student data with anyone and promises that it will provide search results based on profile matching only. Schools cannot be promoted above another.

If a student or counselor searches by or selects a college, Start.edu will randomly match close competitors or to those with similar profiles. The biggest benefit is when a user selects a campus that happens to be a Slate school, forms, events, and even applications that are housed within each college's Slate database can be accessed directly through this Start.edu.
