Anthia Smith÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore forward Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III Female Athlete of the Week.  Smith had double-doubles in both of the Lady Pioneers victories this past week.

Tshibangu Certified ASQ Quality Engineer

Pioneers win 11th of 2007

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team won a hard fought physical contest with SUNY Orange, 64-53, on Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Pioneers end the 2007 portion of the season winners of three straight and 11-4 overall.  The Colts fall to 3-7 on the year.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball team wrapped up the the 2007 portion with a hard fought 78-71 victory over SUNY Orange.  The Lady Pioneers have three straight and eight of their last nine and are 9-3 on the year.

Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed a career high 26 rebounds as ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State downed Finger Lakes CC 78-72.  A-State improves to 8-3 on the year while FLCC falls to 9-3.

John ChisolmMike Septh÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore football players John Chisolm (Trenton, NJ) and Mike Septh (Monroe Woodbury) have been named NJCAA All-Americans.  Chisolm was named a second team defensive back while Septh was named an honorable mention wide receiver.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday with a hard fought 60-49 win over Dean College on Sunday afternoon.  With the win the Blue and Gold improve to 9-4 on the year.

For the second time in eight days the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball team won a tight contest versus Dean College.  On Sunday afternoon in Franklin, MA the Lady Pioneers improved to 7-3 on the year with a 79-70 victory.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team dropped a tight contest at the CC of Rhode Island, 74-69 on Saturday afternoon.  The Knights scored seven of the games final nine points in the last minute to break a 67-67 tie.  ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ falls to 8-4 on the year while CCRI improves to 8-4.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball team hung tough with #18 CC of Rhode Island but the Lady Knights used a strong second half en route to a 69-50 victory.  The Lady Pioneers five game winning streak was snapped and the team sits at 6-3 on the season while CCRI improves to 6-2.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College wrestling team finished 4th in the team standings at the annual ASC Open.  Sophomore Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) was the Pioneers lone weight class winner bringing home the championship at 133 lbs.

Niagara CCC jumped out to a 21-0 lead over ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State in a WNYAC dual match en route to a 32-13 victory.  NCCC improves to 6-0 in dual matches while the Pioneers fall to 1-4.

Doorley named AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year

Coach Doorley gives signsFor the second year in a row ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College volleyball coach Gene Doorley has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Two-Year College Northeast-Southeast Region Coach of the Year.  Doorley led the Lady Pioneers to their first trip to the NJCAA National Championships since 1977.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team got off to a fast start and withstood a comeback attempt to claim the ASC tournament title, 85-78 over Rockland CC.  A-State is now 8-0 in the four-year history of the tournament and improve to 8-3 for the season.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) went 3-0 in the 133 lb. weight class to win the title at the Niagara CCC Open on Saturday afternoon.  Longenecker was one of four Pioneers to finish in the top five in their weight class.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College wrestling team dropped a pair of dual matches on Friday evening at the annual Niagara CCC duals.  ASC fell 34-10 to Muskegon (MI) CC and 33-21 to Grand Valley (MI).  The Pioneers are now 1-3 in dual meets this year.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's swimming team remained undefeated in invitationals by winning the SUNY Delhi Invite.  The Pioneers have now won all three invitationals they have swam in this season.  The women's team finished 4th out of eight teams.

Dusty Marshall (Newfield) had a huge game as ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State downed Jefferson CC 66-53 to advance to the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College Tournament finals.  The Pioneers (7-3) will meet Rockland CC in the finals at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball team repeated as the champion of the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State Tournament with a hard fought 63-53 victory over Dean (MA) College.  With the win the Lady Pioneers have won five straight and improve to 6-2 on the season.
