$29,320 Grant Issued to ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State’s Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College recently received a $29,320 grant to organize a system for local farmers to supply ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College's dining services with fresh produce. To accomplish this, the Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA) will provide support and educational benefits for local farmers.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team shot just 35.5% from the floor and saw their season come to an end in a 59-54 loss to Genesee CC in a Region III Division II Tournament First Round contest.  The Pioneers end the season with a 19-11 record while the Cougars (13-15) advance to the semifinals to take on #1 Erie CC on Saturday afternoon at Jamestown CC.

Longenecker finishes 5th

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore wrestler Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) finished 5th and earned All-American status (133 lb. weight class) at the NJCAA National Championships.  Longenecker is the 27th All-American in A-State history and the first wrestler at 133 lbs. to earn All-American since Troy Almeter finished 4th in 1987.

Six players finished in double figures as ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥Â State downed Niagara CCC 92-79 to close out the regular season.  A-State heads into the Region III Division II Tournament with a 19-10 overall record and a 8-6 mark in WNYAC play.

The five seniors at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College made their last home game at the Orvis Activities Center a memorable with a 64-59 victory over #9 Genesee CC on Thursday evening.  With the win the Lady Pioneers improve to 16-8 (7-4 WNYAC & 7-2 Region III Division II) while the Lady Cougars fall to 20-4 (8-3 WNYAC & 8-1 Region III Division II).

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili) has been named the Region III male athlete of the week.  Omoregie helped lead the Pioneers to their 2nd straight Region III Indoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday afternoon.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's indoor track and field team repeated as Region III Indoor Track and Field Champions while the women's team finished 4th.  The championship is the 9th since 1988 and 5th since 2000.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College swim team completed a very stong showing at the Northeast Districts on Sunday.  The men's team finished as runner-ups and the women were 3rd out of 9 teams.  At the conclusion of the meet, the women's team was named the most improved team while head coach Bob Haley was named the men's coach of the year.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team fell behind 13-2 in the opening three minutes of the contest and could never fully recover in a 75-67 loss to Mercyhurst North East.  The Saints improve to 16-11 (5-8 WNYAC) while the Pioneers fall to 17-10 (6-6 WNYAC).

Mercyhurst North East rallied from a 15-point second half deficit and defeated ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College 65-63 in overtime.  A-State falls to 15-8 (6-4 WNYAC & 6-2 Region III Division II) while Mercyhurst North East improves to 12-15 (5-6 WNYAC).

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team picked up their 17th win of the season with a 79-72 victory at JCC-Olean on Thursday evening.  The Pioneers are now 17-9 overall and 6-5 in WNYAC action.

The brackets for the 2008 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships have been announced.  Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA), Cory Merchant (Cobleskill-Richmondville), and Andy Wright (Hilton) will represent ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College in the event to be held February 22 & 23 in Rochester, MN.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore pitcher Becky Simpson (Campbell Savona) has been named a NJCAA Division III Pre-Season All-American.  Simpson is one of two pitchers on the 2nd team.

For the second time in less than a week the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team gave Erie CC all they could handle but couldn't pull off the upset of the #8 ranked Kats.  ECC used a 16 to 3 run in the 2nd half en route to a 76-67 victory.

Gallaway Longenecker (Manheim, PA) was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Northeast/Region III Championships.  He was the lone ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College champion as he won the 133 lb. title.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College indoor track & field team competed in the Region III Championship for the weight throw and the 200 m dash and in the Cornell Open on Saturday in Ithaca.  After three events of the Region III Championship the men and the women are in 1st place.

Fran Lantigua (Jamestown) hit a flying lay-up just before the horn rang as the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team upset #8 Monroe CC in a hard fought, back and forth battle, 68-67.  The win was the first for the Pioneers versus Monroe in Jusianiec's eight years at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ (19-games).  With the win the Pioneers improve to 16-8 (5-4 WNYAC) while the Tribunes fall to 21-6 (9-2 WNYAC).
