Mike Gustafson (Warren, PA) led a trio of ��Ӱֱ�� State College wrestlers at the NJCAA National Championships in Rochester, MN over the weekend.  Gustafson was the lone Pioneer that registered a victory.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team fell behind by twenty and tried to rally but fell 88-73 to Monroe CC in the Region III Division II Tournament semifinals.  Monroe connected was 8 for 15 from three in the first half to take control of the game.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College rallied from a 16-point second half deficit to tie the game at 48-48 with 4:30 remaining but Erie CC finished the game on a 16-5 run to advance to the Region III Division II Final Four.  The Lady Pioneers close out the season with a 10-14 mark while the Lady Kats improve to 15-12 and will take on #1 seeded Genesee CC.

��Ӱֱ�� State College's Office of
Communications has been notified that it was named a recipient of three awards
in the 24^th  Annual Admissions Advertising Awards Competition,
sponsored by the Admissions Marketing Report publication. Winning
entries were the ��Ӱֱ�� State College total recruitment package (gold); ��Ӱֱ��
State College direct mail advertising visit post card (merit); and ��Ӱֱ�� State
College Web site (merit).

��Ӱֱ�� State
College's School of Applied Technology, Wellsville, will host the 11th annual
New York State Postsecondary (college level) SkillsUSA competition
Saturday, March 28, 2009.  Proposed categories of competition are
automotive service, CNC milling, carpentry, collision repair technology,
commercial baking, computer maintenance technology, cosmetology, culinary, job
skills demonstration, masonry, precision machining, residential wiring,
technical drafting, and welding.

��Ӱֱ�� State College, in its continuing efforts to ensure the safety of its students, faculty, and staff recently added another piece to its comprehensive emergency notification system. 

Essi Corp., a company based in Broussard, LA, supplied ��Ӱֱ�� State with a 133db outdoor, omni-directional warning siren which emits a 360 degree beam of sound on a horizontal plane. 

Students at ��Ӱֱ�� State College who are members of the WINS Club (Women in Non-traditional Studies, though it is open to all students) recently raised money through pop can and bottle returns, enabling them to present a check for $50 to Both Your Hands (a nonprofit organization designed to connect caring communities with poor villages to create self sufficiency and pride in achievement).

Four members of the ��Ӱֱ�� State College wrestling team have earned postseason honors based on their performances at the Region III/Northeast Championships.  Mike Gustafson (Warren, PA) and Cody Lansberry (Kendall) earned All-Region and All-WNYAC honors while Darren Whittall (Starpoint) and Dan Dwyer (Lafayette) earned All-Region honors.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team came out on fire but had to hang on for a 76-70 victory over Jamestown CC in a Region III Division II contest.  The Pioneers improve to 17-13 on the season and will take on the #1 seed Monroe CC on Saturday in the semifinals.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team has earned the #4 seed for the upcoming Region III Division II Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers finished the regular season with a 10-13 mark and a 5-5 record in Region III Division II play.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team will be the #5 seed for this week's Region III Division II Tournament.  The Pioneers finished the regular season with a 16-13 mark and a 7-7 record in Region III Division II contests.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's indoor track & field team won the Region III Championship for the third straight year.  The Pioneers were 38 points better than runner-up Erie CC.  The women's team finished 3rd with 72 points.

Marcus McAfee hit a running jumper as time expired to lead Jamestown CC to a 65-63 overtime victory over ��Ӱֱ�� State on Saturday at the Orvis Activities Center.  The Pioneers finish the regular season with a 16-13 record (7-7 WNYAC).

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team held on for a 56-55 victory over Jamestown CC in their regular season finale.  The Lady Pioneers finish the regular season with a 10-13 mark (5-5 Region III Division II) while JCC falls to 17-11 (6-4 Region III Division II).

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team gave Monroe CC all they could handle but came up short in a 89-79 contest on Thursday.  The #6 ranked Tribunes improve to 24-5 overall and 12-1 in WNYAC play while the Pioneers are now 16-12 and 7-6 in the WNYAC.

The Monroe CC women's basketball team used their height advantage as they downed ��Ӱֱ�� State College 98-53.  The Lady Tribunes, ranked #11 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, out-rebounded ASC (9-13) 67 to 29 (33 to 7 on the offensive glass).

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team has joined the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone cause.  The Lady Pioneers have joined over 1,500 colleges in raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.  ASC's Pink Zone contest will be held on Saturday February 21 when ��Ӱֱ�� State takes on Jamestown CC at 1 p.m.

The brackets for next weekend's NJCAA wrestling National Championships have been released.  Mike Gustafson (Warren, PA), Darren Whittall (Starpoint), and Dan Dwyer (Lafayette) will represent ��Ӱֱ�� State at the 50th championship event in Rochester, MN.

State College will host the upcoming 20th annual SkillsUSA-Region I Leadership
Conference and Skills Olympics, (formerly VICA-- Vocational Industrial Clubs of
America) Tuesday, March 10, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (Snow day, Wednesday,
March 11.)

Antonio-Phillip Lytle, Assistant Director of Student Activities and Orientation /Coordinator of Greek Affairs, recently presented the topic “What’s an Ally?” at the Greater Rochester Fraternal Leadership Institute at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) had a career high 42 points as the ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team wrapped up their six-game road trip with a 86-73 victory over Mercyhurst North East on Tuesday.  ASC finishes the road trip 5-1 and improves to 16-11 (7-5 WNYAC) on the season.

The Mercyhurst North East women's basketball team used a 20 to 5 run that spanned the end of the first half and the start of the second to break a 27-27 tie en route to a 82-65 victory over ��Ӱֱ�� State.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 9-12 overall and the season and 4-5 in Region III Division II play.

Joseph G. Pelych, Hornell, has been
appointed by the NYS Governor's Office to the ��Ӱֱ�� State College Council.

Council members serve without salary as an advisory
group to the president of the College. 

��Ӱֱ�� State College's
senior masonry students and seven local professional masons participated in a
day-long seminar dealing with Rumford fireplace design and construction. 
The seminar included lecture and hands-on laboratory experience on the School
of Applied Technology campus in Wellsville. 

��Ӱֱ�� State College recently hosted Congressman Eric
J. J. Massa (D-29^th District) and his "2009 Western New York
Regional Agriculture Summit."

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College wrestling team finished tied for 4th place at the Region III/Northeast Distict Championship held at Niagara CCC on Sunday, February 15.  Three Pioneers have advanced to compete in the NJCAA National Championships.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's swimming team finished 2nd for the third straight year at the Regionn III/Northeast Districts.  The Pioneers scored 334 points over the three day event.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's track and field continued to hold on to its lead in the Region III Championships on Saturday at Cornell University.  The men now have 138 points after two days of competition and lead by 59 points.

Dan Foley (Irondequoit) recorded a triple-double as ��Ӱֱ�� State downed Medaille College JV 91-60 on Saturday afternoon.  Foley and the Pioneers have won seven of their last eight and are 4-1 on the current six-game road trip.
