Two masonry seniors enrolled in
÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College's School of Applied Technology Building Trades/masonry
program were recently awarded the Southern Tier Concrete Products, Inc.,
Achievement Award for Excellence in the trowel trades.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College volleyball players Yurika Toyodome (Tokyo, Japan) and Jenni Jerome (Syracuse/Westhill) have signed letter of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the four-year level.  Toyodome will be attending Davenport University (Grand Rapids, MI) and Jerome will be attending Glenville State (Glenville, WV).

Recently the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College athletic department handed out the 2008-09 athletic awards at a ceremony held at the Lake Lodge.

State College was the recipient, earlier this month, of the Outstanding Humane
Organization Collaborative Award, presented by the Finger Lakes SPCA. 
This award "recognizes the extraordinary compassion and collaborative spirit
with the Finger Lakes SPCA for the benefit of those who cannot speak for
themselves."  ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College (students, faculty, and staff)
supported the August 2008 Equine Rescue led by the Finger Lakes SPCA.

The 2009 NJCAA Division III Track and Field Championships came to a close on Saturday at a gusty Pioneer Stadium.  The Pioneer men finished 4th overall with 101 points while the women were 7th with 53 points

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's track & field team remains in first place after day two of the NJCAA Division III National Championships.  The men, 78 points, lead Harper College by 10 points heading into the final day of competition.  The Lady Pioneers have earned 23 points good for seventh place in the standings.           

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's track and field team leads after day one of the 2009 NJCAA Division III National Championships held at Pioneer Stadium.  The Pioneers scored 52 first day points and lead 2nd place Harper College (IL) by 13 points.  On the women's side, the Lady Pioneers have earned 7th points.

Supporters of ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College gathered at the School of Applied Technology campus recently to celebrate the completion of Phase I of the Construction Workforce Development Center-the shell has been completed and the building fully enclosed.  It awaits funding to complete the interior. 

Nearly
900 two-and four-year graduates, their families, professors, and friends will
be on hand Sunday, May 17, at noon, as ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College honors its 98^th
graduating class.

Presiding over the
ceremony will be Dr. John M. Anderson, college president.

The ceremony will be
held at McLane Center on the neighboring ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ University campus. Graduates
will need to use the tickets in their graduation packets for their families'
admission.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College employees once again participated in the annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work^® Day in April.  This event is open to employees' children, grandchildren, grandsons, nieces, and nephews between the ages of nine and 15.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College student
academic achievement was celebrated in April during the 25^th annual
Honors Convocation.  ASC President Dr. John M. Anderson welcomed the
gathered students, families, faculty, and friends and congratulated them on
their achievements.

Beginning on Wednesday athletes representing twenty-five NJCAA institutions will travel to ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College to participate in the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The event will feature nearly 350 participants vying for both individual and team honors.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College
honored more than 250 students for their academic success and honored
distinguished faculty members for excellence and commitment at its annual
Honors Convocation.  Chosen this year for the Freshman Advocate of the
Year Award, presented at the ceremony, and sponsored by the Division of Student
Affairs, was Dr. John C. Williams, of ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥, associat

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College Professor Yogendra (Yogi) Jonchhe,
Mechanical Engineering Technology Department, has been selected as a Fulbright
scholar grantee to Nepal.  He is the third ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College professor
in the 60-year history of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship program
to receive this honor.

The EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) staff at
÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College recently inducted nine students into the Chi Alpha Epsilon
honor society.  Chi Alpha Epsilon recognizes the academic excellence
achieved by those students admitted to college via developmental
programs.

Joy Carlson, AIA, professor,
Computer Imaging and Architectural Engineering Technology Department, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥
State College, and adviser to the WINS Club, (Women in Non-traditional
Studies--though the club is open to all students) welcomed two alumni speakers
to the club's annual Men in the Field dinner in April. 

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College softball team split with Herkimer CCC in their 2009 season finale.  Herkimer took the first game 9-1 but the Lady Pioneers bounced back for a 1-0 victory in game two.  The Lady Pioneers finish the campaign with a 13-23 overall mark and a 10-15 record in Region III Division III contests.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's track and field team tied with Mohawk Valley CC for 2nd at the Region III Championships.  ASC and MVCC trailed the overall champions, SUNY Delhi by just seven points.  On the women's side, ASC finished 4th with 79 points.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College's 2009 spring season came to an end following a 9-5 loss to #4 seeded Mercyhurst North East in the Region III Division II Tournament.  The Pioneers finish the spring with a 26-17 record.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College baseball team rallied from a three run deficit to send their Region III Division II first round contest with Monroe CC into extra innings but the Tribunes scored in the bottom of the 10th to earn a 5-4 victory.

NYS Sen. Catharine M. Young (R-Olean) was honored by ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College recently with the President's Medallion, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the college.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball player Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named a third team NJCAA All-American.  This is the third straight year a Lady Pioneer has earned All-American honors.
