The ��Ӱֱ�� State College baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the 8th en route to a 3-2 victory over Niagara CCC in a WNYAC first round match-up played on the turf at Bolivar Richburg High School.  The Pioneers advance to the final four to be played Saturday at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia.

The 2009 ��Ӱֱ�� State College cross country team is not only climbing up the NJCAA Division III poll but members of the team are making a difference with a trio of community service events.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's soccer team moved up two spots in the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  ASC is now ranked #8 after debuting last week in the 10th spot.  Lady Pioneer goalie Mo Parks (Avoca) was named the NJCAA Division III goalie of the week as well.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's soccer team recorded its seventh shutout of the season, 2-0 over JCC-Olean on Tuesday evening.  The win for the 10th ranked NJCAA Division III squad improves their record to 7-1-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Region III Division III play.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College volleyball team fell 21-25, 19-25, 23-25 to Jamestown CC in a WNYAC dual match on Tuesday evening.  The Lady Pioneers are now 9-8 (8-7 Region III Division III) on the season.

Recently three members of the ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's soccer team answered some questions from the Sports Information Department to give an inside look at Lady Pioneer soccer.  Sophomore defenders Audrey Rath (Medina), Chelsea Lafayette (Eastridge), and Jackie Matteson (Greece Arcadia) have been a big reason ASC has allowed just three goals in the first nine games.

John Sweeney (Barker) and Carey Crooker (Addison) have been named the NJCAA Division III runners of the week.  In the newly released national poll the men's team sits in 3rd and the women in 5th.

��Ӱֱ�� State College instructor Constance Pennisi, digital media and animation, will mount a solo exhibit of digital artwork entitled “Snippets II.” The exhibition is sponsored by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, and will be on display from Oct. 1-26, 2009, at the Spotlight Gallery at The ARTS, 32 West Market Street, Corning. The ��Ӱֱ�� State College baseball team will head into the WNYAC fall tournament as the #4 seed and will take on #5 Niagara CCC in the first round.  Due to the poor recent weather and forecast the game will be played on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Bolivar Richburg High School's turf field.

Several new faculty members have joined the ��Ӱֱ�� State College community.

Among the new hires are Muriel Brown, Dr. Deborah Carr-Warner, Cindy Coleman, Brian Decker, Laurie Dunn, George Merry, Jr., James Murphy, Dr. Douglas Pierson, John Potter, Mary Stoke, and Edward Waddell.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College volleyball team went 5-2 and finished 2nd at the annual Cara Bryant Memorial Invitational at Onondaga CC.  The Pioneers are now 9-7 on the season (8-6 Region III Division III).

Homecoming/Family Weekend at ��Ӱֱ�� State College may have weathered a little rain, but that didn’t dampen the spirits during half-time (of a successful football game where the ��Ӱֱ�� State Pioneers downed Globe Institute of Technology, NYC,  8-3) when Centennial Campaign honorary co-chairs Dr. William D. ��Ӱֱ�� State College’s Division of Student Affairs made a pre-emptive strike against the outbreak of influenza-like-illnesses (ILI) recently by distributing “flu kits” to students at both campuses during the lunch and dinner hours at their respective dining halls.

��Ӱֱ�� State College Pioneer Stadium was the place to be as college officials, student athletes, students, football fans, and honored guests gathered for the official “opening” of the stadium’s gateway building Monday night (9/21) as ��Ӱֱ�� State College President Dr. John M. Anderson performed the ritual ribbon cutting.

��Ӱֱ�� State College’s Division of Student Affairs will host the National Save a Life Tour on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Orvis gym on the ��Ӱֱ�� campus.

Sunday's WNYAC doubleheader between ��Ӱֱ�� State and Genesee CC has been rained out.  The game was the final regular season doubleheader of the fall season.

��Ӱֱ�� State College and Jamestown CC split a WNYAC doubleheader on homecoming Saturday.  The Jayhawks won the opener 3-2 but the Pioneers won game two 2-1 in 10 innings.  ASC is now 7-5 on the season.

Xavier Makell (Baltimore, MD) rushed in from 12-yards out with 5:59 remaining in the game to lift ��Ӱֱ�� State to a 8-3 homecoming victory over Globe Institute of Technology.  The victory was the lowest scoring victory in Pioneer football history.

Masanari Yamamoto (Tokyo, Japan) cashed in on a penalty kick four minutes into the game to lift ��Ӱֱ�� State to a 1-0 homecoming victory over Niagara CCC.  The blue & gold climb over .500 with the victory and are now 5-4 on the year.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's soccer team recorded its sixth shutout, 2-0 over Niagara CCC, on Saturday afternoon.  ASC, ranked #10 in Division III of the NJCAA, improve to 6-1-2 on the season.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College cross country teams fared very well as they competed versus a mostly four-year school field at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College.  The men finished 4th out of 12 scoring teams while the women finished 6th out of 11.

��Ӱֱ�� State College SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Jim Grillo has been selected to serve on the State University of New York’s (SUNY) University-wide Advisory Council on Distinguished Teaching Professorships.  His two-year term runs from 2009-11.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's soccer team scored rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory over Broome CC on Thursday afternoon.  Justin Handley (Iroquois) netted the game winner with 1:46 remaining in the first overtime to run the Pioneers winning streak to three games.

In a battle of two NJCAA Division III top ten teams, Broome CC scored the lone goal of the game with 1:28 remaining in the first overtime to earn the victory over ��Ӱֱ�� State.  The Lady Pioneers, ranked #10, fall to 5-1-2 on the season while the Lady Hornets, the two-time defending NJCAA Division III champion and currently ranked #4, improve to 8-2 on the season.

Holly R. Hogan, Hornell, has been appointed by the NYS Governor’s Office to the ��Ӱֱ�� State College Council; she succeeds Terri Ross, whose term expired over the summer.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College volleyball team won the opening game versus Niagara CCC 25-23 but were slowed down by poor serving and passing and fell in the next three, 20-25, 17-25, 23-25.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 4-5 (3-4 Region III Division III) on the season.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's soccer team scored three goals in the final 16 minutes to run their unbeaten streak to seven games.  With the 3-0 win over Genesee CC the Lady Pioneers are now 5-0-2 (4-0-1 Region III Division III) on the season.
