“Not too long ago,” notes Dr. Steven J. Tyrell, vice president for student affairs at ��Ӱֱ�� State College, “a generation was considered to be about 15-20 years. Nowadays, there are more frequent marked shifts in students’ attitudes and values. The millennial generation is comprised of more than 10 distinctly different sub-populations of students. New sub-populations can emerge as quickly as every 18 months!”

Spencer Peavey, ��Ӱֱ�� State College director of Student Activities and Orientation, recently presented at the National Orientation DirectorsAssociation (NODA) conference on “Expecting More Out of Your Orientation Program: A Great Way to Incorporate Service into Your Orientation Program.” Peavey, who developed New Student Service Day four years ago, reviewed the program paired with academic and retention information.

��Ӱֱ�� State College and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), a non-academic honor society consisting of the top 1% of student leaders, announces the winners of October’s “Of The Month” (OTM) Awards.

Dr. John M. Anderson, president, ��Ӱֱ�� State College, has been named to the AASCU (American Association of State Colleges and Universities) Committee on Economic and Work Force Development (CEWD), whose mission is to help AASCU institutions enhance the scope and visibility of economic and work force development efforts in partnership with their communities and regions.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team downed Rockland CC 66-53 to claim the ASC Tournament title.  The Pioneers are now 11-1 in the six years of the ASC Tournament and even their 2009-10 record to 5-5.

Genesee CC's led 40-35 at half and was able to use a press to increase their lead en route to a 83-71 victory over ��Ӱֱ�� State in the championship game of the 2009 ASC Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 6-3 on the year.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's swimming team finished 2nd while the women finished 5th at the Herkimer CCC Fall Invitational.  The men scored 184 points and trailed only the hosts while the women scored 111.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team used a 10-0 run to break a 55-55 tie en route to a 72-66 victory over Fulton Montgomery CC in the opening round of the ASC Tournament.  The Pioneers improve to 4-5 on the year and will take on Rockland CC tomorrow in the championship game.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team trailed 18-17 but went on a 23-7 run to gain the lead and never looked back.  The Lady Pioneers moved to the the championship game of the ASC Tournament with a 85-52 victory over Jefferson CC.

Cuyahoga CC hit 23 foul shots in the second half en route to a 78-66 victory over ��Ӱֱ�� State on Thursday evening in Cleveland, OH.  The Pioneers fall to 3-5 on the season.

Mercyhurst North East won the final three matches of the night to rally to tie ��Ӱֱ�� State 22-22 in a WNYAC dual match.  ASC is now 1-0-1 on the year while MNE is 0-0-1.

Trailing 38-26 at half, the ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team rallied and had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds but fell 73-71 to Cuyahoga (OH) CC.  The Lady Pioneers are now 5-2 on the season.

Twenty-five ��Ӱֱ�� State College students were inducted recently into Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the national Honor Society for two-year colleges. Friends and family of the inductees attended the evening ceremony at the Orvis Activities Center on the ��Ӱֱ�� State campus.

The Board of Directors of the Educational Foundation of ��Ӱֱ��, Inc., has announced its slate of officers for 2009-10.

David G. Haggstrom, Angelica, has been named to the board of the Educational Foundation of ��Ӱֱ��, Inc. As a board member, Haggstrom will contribute his skills to the management of the property affairs, business, and concerns of the corporation; he will also participate in the adoption of resolutions and regulations for the conduct of the management of the affairs of the corporation.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team raced to a 93-40 victory over Houghton College JV to win their fifth straight.  The Lady Pioneers are now 5-1 on the season while the Highlanders fall to 1-4.

��Ӱֱ�� State College sophomore women's basketball player Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week.  Brooks helped the Lady Pioneers to a 3-0 week and a 4-1 start.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball team held off a second half rally by SUNY Orange and escaped with a 61-57 victory.  The Pioneers snap a three game slide and improve to 3-4 on the year.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) and Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) led the ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team to a 82-72 victory SUNY Orange.  The Lady Pioneers are now 4-1 on the year while the Lady Colts fall to 1-2.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College football team revenged an early season loss at Erie CC with a 21-15 victory over the Kats to close out the 2009 season.  The Pioneers who received a forfeit victory earlier in the week finish their campaign with a 5-5 record while the Kats finish 4-6.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 85-39 victory over Roberts Wesleyan JV on Thursday evening.  The Lady Pioneers have now won three in a row and are 3-1 on the year.

Cuyahoga (OH) CC used a 20 to 5 run in the second half to break a 42-42 tie en route to a 71-62 victory over ��Ӱֱ�� State on Thursday evening.  The Pioneers are now 2-4 on the year.

Gary Moore has been named the NJCAA Division III men's cross country coach of the year following ��Ӱֱ�� State's 2nd place finish at the National Championships.  Moore was chosen for the award by his fellow coaches.

Four members of the ��Ӱֱ�� State College cross country team ran to NJCAA Division III honors with top 15 finishes at the National Championships last weekend at Finger Lakes CC.  John Sweeney (Barker) earned first team, Brandon Lewis (Red Creek) and Carey Crooker (Addison) earned second team, and Joe Seitz (Williamsville North) was third team.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College wrestling team opened up the 2009-10 season with a convincing 36-12 victory over Jamestown CC.  The Pioneers won eight of the nine matches wrestled.

Cayuga CC hit two foul shots with 6.8 seconds remaining to defeat the ��Ӱֱ�� State College men's basketball 81-80.  The Pioneers fall to 2-3 on the season.

Megan Coates (Nazareth) hit a 10 foot jumper with four seconds left to lift the ��Ӱֱ�� State College women's basketball team to a 72-71 victory over Cayuga CC on Tuesday evening.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 2-1 on the year.
