Julian Dautremont-Smith, chief sustainability officer at ��Ӱֱ�� State, recently contributed to a book project of Widener Law Distinguished Professor John C. Dernbach that supports the national movement for more sustainable products, practices, lifestyles, and policies. The project is the only nongovernmental effort in the U.S. to comprehensively assess the nation’s sustainability activities.

��Ӱֱ�� State President John M. Anderson has been named to the Steering Committee of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). He joins over 20 other college presidents and chancellors in serving on the primary governance body of the organization.

The New York State University Police Department at ��Ӱֱ�� State was recently awarded official status as an Accredited Law Enforcement Agency by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services’ Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

Two administrators at ��Ӱֱ�� State – Julian Dautremont-Smith, chief sustainability officer – have been appointed to the Western New York regional planning team of the Cleaner, Greener Communities Program (CGC). The initiative is administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

��Ӱֱ�� State is pleased to announce the addition of a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) degree to program offerings at the college. This addition to the School of Architecture, Management and Engineering Technology will be accepting new students beginning in fall 2013.

��Ӱֱ�� State has signed the “Commitment to Sustainable Practices of Higher Education Institutions,” joining almost 200 other college and universities worldwide. It is one of many voluntary commitments to support sustainability initiatives made as part of Rio+20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which began meeting on June 20.

Nearly 75 sustainability professionals from as far as California converged on ��Ӱֱ�� State for “Innovations in Technical Education to Advance Sustainability,” bringing with them ideas and best practices from their own experiences.

Briana Dorsey (Rochester/School of the Arts) was recently named the Western New York Athletic Conference Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Dorsey was honored along with Genesee CC lacrosse player Connor Lattimer.

Four ��Ӱֱ�� State student-athletes were honored by the NJCAA for their excellence in the classroom. Thomas Anderson (Sodus) and Amanda Bush (Altoona, PA) earned the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement while Joe Markel (Arkport) and Zinta Rutins (Silver Spring, MD) earned the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement.

Dr. Earl Packard has been selected to participate in the annual reading and scoring of the College Board’s Advanced Placement Examinations in June. He will be reading the calculus exams for the 10^th consecutive year.

Alumni gathered at ��Ӱֱ�� State to celebrate the dedication of the Anthony C. Cappadonia Auditorium, in honor of Professor Emeritus Anthony “Cappy” Cappadonia and his 56 years of teaching and directing instrumental and choral groups at the college.

The 2012 ��Ӱֱ�� State football team will play six of their ten games in the friendly confines of Pioneer Stadium. The defending Region III champions will look to build on the momentum of a 6-4 record in 2011.

The postseason awards for the ��Ӱֱ�� State lacrosse team have come in and Mike Hart (Ajax, ONT) was named 2nd team All-Region and 1st team All-WNYAC. Attackmen Chance Lowry (Waterloo) and goalie Brad Stowell (Marcellus) were both named 2nd team All-WNYAC.

��Ӱֱ�� State alum Rod Streater is making an impression as he battles for a spot on the Oakland Raiders roster. Streater went undrafted in the NFL draft but quickly signed with the Raiders following the conclusion of the draft.

��Ӱֱ�� State is pleased to announce that Julian Dautremont-Smith has joined the campus community as chief sustainability officer at the college. He has served in several related positions, including as associate director for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
