Pioneer Woodsmen’s won first place in the men’s division and first place in the mixed Jack and Jill division in the spring opener Collegiate Woodsmen competition held recently at SUNY Cobleskill, Feb. 16.

Twelve ��Ӱֱ�� State students who will be spending spring break in Horry County, SC, building houses as part of Habitat for Humanity's Collegiate Challenge program are raising funds for the trip, including $3,000 for materials and building supplies for the house construction.

Ten freshmen Building Trades students and instructor Jack Jones returned from a week of service in Long Island Feb. 8 where they spent five days helping home owners there prepare to rebuild homes destroyed by Super Storm Sandy last fall.

��Ӱֱ�� State announced today that it will put in place a new, standardized Financial Aid Award Letter from the State University of New York beginning in March.

In all, 28 SUNY Student Senate members, including a member of the SUNY Board of Trustees, traveled from Albany to attend the day-long conference which included campus tours and events planned by the ��Ӱֱ�� State Student Senate.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College Council recently honored University Police Officer Mark Woodworth and Lieutenant Scott Bingham for two separate heroic actions they recently took in recent emergency situations.

Dr. William Rezak, former ��Ӱֱ�� State President, will talk about his new book, The Arab and the Brit – The Last of the Welcome Immigrants” at the New Horizons Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. in room 107 of the Physical and Health Sciences Building. The public is invited free of charge. An open discussion will follow.

��Ӱֱ�� State student Kyle Perry, of Frewsburg, a third-year Department of Architecture and Design, has earned an honorable mention award and a cash prize of $500 for his outstanding architectural design entry in the 2012 AIAS/Kawneer “Enlightened Libraries” Competition.

The Board of Directors of the Educational Foundation of ��Ӱֱ��, Inc., has announced new board members and officers for 2013-14.

Several new faculty and staff members have joined ��Ӱֱ�� State in the schools of Arts and Sciences; Architecture, Management & Engineering Technology; and Applied Technology as well as in the departments of Facilities Services, Student Life, Admissions, Library Services, Athletics, and Technology Services.

The five winners of the Spirit of Service awards are ��Ӱֱ�� State student Leslie Teagarden, ��Ӱֱ�� resident Jeanne Hyland, ��Ӱֱ�� University student Zachary Mazejka, ��Ӱֱ�� University faculty member Becky Prophet, and Sandy Dennison, marketing director for ��Ӱֱ�� State’s ACES.

Court reporting and captioning students at ��Ӱֱ�� State are marketing National Court Reporting and Captioning Week, Feb. 17-23 by participating in a national veteran’s oral history project coordinated by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), the leading organization representing stenographic court reporting and broadcast captioning professionals.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State Drama Club invites you into the jury room for a dinner theater production of "12 Angry Jurors,” a play based on the Emmy award-winning television movie by Reginald Rose titled “12 Angry Men” and adapted for stage by Sherman Sergel.

Dr. Richard Kellogg, professor emeritus of psychology at ��Ӱֱ�� State, is the author of a short story included in a new anthology of adventures about the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. The volume, titled The Great Detective: His Further Adventures, is edited by noted mystery writer Gary Lovisi.

��Ӱֱ�� State’s WINS Club (Women In Non-traditional Studies) recently conducted a holiday fundraiser, raising $180 through can and bottle returns and coin banks, to buy presents for two families sponsored by Steuben Rural Ministry of Canisteo.

��Ӱֱ�� State senior Dakota Cornell of Eldred, PA, was presented with the Pennsylvania Land Surveyors’ Foundation scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year last month at the organization’s annual conference in Hershey, PA.

Cost of the event is $17 for adults; $7 for children 10 and under. Proceeds from the event, which is sponsored by the Top Hat Club (the culinary honor society), will benefit the club’s activity fund. No reservations will be accepted.

Scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lake Lodge, 6107 Terbury Road in ��Ӱֱ��, the program covers a variety of strategies for achieving fundraising success and is presented by a variety of accomplished speakers who will explore the diverse issues that challenge annual, major, and planned giving programs.

Dr. Gray is an associate professor of English at ��Ӱֱ�� University and the recipient of the 2010 Orphic Book Prize from Dream Horse Press and the 2010 Bea Gonzalez Prize for Poetry.

��Ӱֱ�� State is participating in SUNY Financial Aid Day, Saturday, Feb. 9. beginning at 9 a.m. in the EJ Brown Business Building, Room 414, on the ��Ӱֱ�� campus.

An exhibit of architectural models and process oriented digital prints is on display at the Hinkle Memorial Library Gallery throughout the month of February.
