The ��Ӱֱ�� State Instrumental Music organization will be performing the annual spring concert, “Senior Showcase,” at 7:30 p.m. May 6 in the Anthony C. Cappadonia Auditorium in Orvis Activities Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Named the “Student Showcase,” the event is open to families, neighbors and colleagues, alumni and community partners from regional businesses, civic organizations, and local schools who’d like to drop by and see some truly amazing projects.

Green was nominated by ��Ӱֱ�� State as an exemplary online educator, who is both enthusiastic and effective in online teaching, and who can be a positive and strong advocate for online teaching in the SUNY community.

“With our colleagues from Houghton College and across the street at ��Ӱֱ�� University, heads of business, chiefs of industry, elected leaders, and every resident of Allegany County, we are all in this together for the common good,” stated ��Ӱֱ�� State President Dr. Skip Sullivan. “Dr. Craig Clark has been spearheading the economic development efforts for us and is deeply invested in bringing these plans to fruition. All of us know how important this is for our future growth.”

Prospective students may enroll now for the fall 2016 semester in the new four-year BS program, designed to satisfy requirements for students entering health care professions or graduate-level biomedical research.

The students participated in 25 projects at various locations such as churches, libraries, and service organizations in several communities including ��Ӱֱ��, ��Ӱֱ�� Station, Almond, and Wellsville.

Sanders spent most of his career on the cutting edge of innovation and change. He was on the ground floor of the quality movement, the launch of the mobile phone industry, and most notably the birth of the World Wide Web. Today, he’s gravitated to disruptive change for more than 30 years.

The annual Great Race will take place from June 18-26, running from San Rafael, CA, to Moline, IL. About 120 classic cars from around the country and the world will compete for a top prize of $50,000 in the timed event.

Students at ��Ӱֱ�� State expect to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. And for two engineering students recently featured in Albany, there was the added benefit of knowing that their invention will help New Yorkers with disabilities.

��Ӱֱ�� State celebrated the achievements of more than 370 students during the 32nd annual Honors Convocation held Sunday, April 17, with Dr. Kristin Poppo, provost, presiding over the event, and SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Mathematics and Physics Lawrence E. Burns serving as grand marshal.

The Honors Program members participated in a virtual conference with Anne Tartarsky, Peace Corps regional recruiter for western New York, on Tuesday, April 12.

More than 40 students, faculty, staff, and friends of ��Ӱֱ�� State were initiated Thursday, April 14 into the college’s chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

Groups performing will include the Alumni Jazz Singers, ’87 Collegiate Quartet, AAA (Anthony’s A cappella Alliance) and the Alumni Choir. The concert is free and open to the public.

In recognition of Earth Week 2016 and ��Ӱֱ�� State’s strong commitment to sustainability, the college planned a number of related events from April 14-26.

Jon Pardi, Josh Thompson, and Frank Foster will take the stage April 23. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the show is scheduled to run from 7 – 11 p.m.

A total of 85 science and technology projects completed by students from 14 local school districts were on display for judging and viewing April 8 at ��Ӱֱ�� State’s 17th annual Regional Science and Technology Fair.

��Ӱֱ�� State and the State University Police Department are pleased to announce that Jeffrey Wilcox has been promoted to the position of lieutenant within the University Police Department, effective April 7.

More than a dozen students were recently installed in a new chapter of the Sigma Lambda Chi (SLC) honor society that was chartered April 4 at ��Ӱֱ�� State.

Students in the soils class at ��Ӱֱ�� State will hold a pH clinic for the community from 2-6 p.m. Friday, April 22 in room 103 of the Agriculture Science Building on the ��Ӱֱ�� campus.

While working with theoretical computations, Physical and Life Sciences Assistant Professor Scott Simpson noticed that copper interacted with an organic molecule called p-benzoquinonemonoimine in a different way compared to some other metals. This led to a hypothesis that copper actually strengthens the bonds of the molecule.

Giving back to the community and helping others are strongly focused on at ��Ӱֱ�� State, and as a result, the college has a number of events planned for National Volunteer Week April 10-16.

President Dr. Skip Sullivan has appointed Matt Heller chief of the State University Police at ��Ӱֱ�� State effective April 7.

The two ��Ӱֱ�� State students who received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence were Katelynn Andera, a forensic science technology major from Ellicottville; and Anna Campbell, a technology management student from Geneseo.

“We are extremely pleased to see this growing interest and heightened enthusiasm for our college from prospective students,” said Deborah Goodrich, associate vice president for Enrollment Management. “While the standards for admission have increased over the years, so too have the number of applicants.”

The 2016 SkillsUSA New York State Leadership and Skills Conference Postsecondary Championship, held mainly on ��Ӱֱ�� State’s Wellsville campus, pitted 60 students from two schools against each other in one of the nation’s most prestigious showcases of career and technical aptitude.

Approximately 300 competitors from 40 teams and 16 schools will be taking part in the 70th Annual Northeast Woodsmen’s Conclave April 22-23 at ��Ӱֱ�� State.

From March 13-19, a group of 13 students worked alongside Horry County Habitat for Humanity in Myrtle Beach, SC, assisting in the ReStore thrift store and helping a family to build a new home.
