The Rochester Chapter of Financial Executives International and the Rochester Business Journal recently named ��Ӱֱ�� State Controller Joseph Greenthal as the honoree in the “Rising Star” category in their eighth annual 2016 Financial Executive of the Year Awards.

While in Wellsville, the challengers took part in multiple events in three locations on campus, testing their electrical, automotive, and culinary arts skills. At the end of the day, the racers assembled bicycles to be donated to a local charity.

The Educational Foundation of ��Ӱֱ��, Inc., a private foundation representing faculty, staff, and friends of ��Ӱֱ�� State, has welcomed a new board member, Mark Payne, of Canisteo. 

The college recently hosted representatives from a Nigerian school who came to ��Ӱֱ�� to discuss best practices for running a successful technical college. 

Kara Stone, a surveying and geomatics engineering technology major from Lake View, won the national collegiate championship for female competitors, but due to a scoring error on the field, split the women’s STIHL title with a competitor from SUNY Cobleskill. Sutton Carhart, a construction management engineering technology major from Stafford, took second place overall in the men’s division. 

��Ӱֱ�� State recognized approximately 700 May 2016 graduates during commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 15. Dr. Skip Sullivan, president, presided over the event, held on the ��Ӱֱ�� campus.

This semester’s event featured 10 visiting dogs, the most the library has brought in so far, with breeds ranging from Australian Shepherd, to Newfoundland, to Basset Hound, to rescued mixed breeds.

Mach Architecture Executive Vice President Douglas Schaefer along with Associate Robert Brunner, a 2008 architectural technology graduate, recently unveiled plans dubbed the “MacKenzie Makeover” to a crowd of students, faculty, and staff.

��Ӱֱ�� State is pleased to announce that the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) has approved reaccreditation of the college’s health information technology (HIT) program.

Grasstravaganza, an event for farmers, conservationists, and consumers who are interested in soil health, grazing, and sustainable agriculture, will be held at ��Ӱֱ�� State Aug. 4-6.

“It is a great day to be a Pioneer,” exclaimed ��Ӱֱ�� State President Dr. Skip Sullivan. "��Ӱֱ�� State is proud to be adding another official intercollegiate athletic program. Our equestrian team has been highly successful in recent years, and we are pleased to provide more great opportunities for our students."

“Those of us in the Civil Engineering Technology Department are very proud of our seniors,” said Erin Vitale, department chair. “For many years, they have outperformed, scored well, and excelled. And this year they’ve exceeded our expectations even further when comparing their scores with peers.” 

For the third time, the ��Ӱֱ�� State Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) Team came out on top in a national competition. 

Receiving awards from ��Ӱֱ�� State were Steven Richardson, agricultural technology, Akron; Dorothy Smith, culinary arts, Bath; and Shawn Murat, electrical construction and maintenance electrician, Bath. 

Associate Professor Wayne Bensley met with Honors Program members April 21 at the college to review current federal laws controlling marijuana and to present data available from states that have approved the drug for medical and recreational use. 

Nearly 250 participants from 19 teams helped raise almost $24,000 for the fight against cancer April 8-9 during ��Ӱֱ�� State’s sixth annual Relay for Life.

Thanks to the continued generosity of the Bethesda Foundation, ��Ӱֱ�� State was able to recently provide its radiologic technology students with an imaging suite.

Five students were recently inducted into the Psi Beta honor society, an organization that promotes interest in the study of psychology at two-year colleges.

Following a “Name the Nestlings” social media campaign in which more than 36,000 people voted on five different name pairings, the two baby bald eagles at the US National Arboretum were officially named “Freedom” and “Liberty.”
