Titled “Presidential Election 2016,” the evening’s center point was a conversation with ��Ӱֱ�� University Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Heineman, and ��Ӱֱ�� State Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences Dr. Rex Olson regarding the prolonged, and often contentious political campaign between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

In helping to reach its goal of $50,000 from at least 300 donors Nov. 29, ��Ӱֱ�� State is making it as easy as possible for people to give. Donations can be made online at , or over the phone when speaking to one of the college’s volunteer callers that day. Also, any donations received between Nov. 1 and 29 will be held until the Day of Giving, so people can get a head start on being a part of the action.

A new program that works to unite students, officers, and all community members is not only defusing potentially tense situations but could be a model that helps towns all across America struggling with the misunderstanding of authority figures.

Presented by the State University of New York Human Resources Association (SUHRA), the award recognizes achievement in improving the quality of programs and services to the university and/or his or her own campus through effective human resources (HR) practices.

Celebrate Service, Celebrate Allegany kicked off its fifth year this past Saturday and proved to be a huge success, as approximately 300 student volunteers from ��Ӱֱ�� State, ��Ӱֱ�� University, and Houghton College came together to engage in community service projects throughout Allegany County.

Honors Program members learned details of the trip from the student team, including that lack of trailer space for the return trip at the end of the race required the students to drive to ��Ӱֱ�� from Moline, thus completing a cross-country journey in the 1953 vehicle. Students were treated to a lap around campus in the vintage truck.

The event is at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 and is convenient to both campuses at the corner where ��Ӱֱ�� University’s Welcome Center and ��Ӱֱ�� State’s main entrance sign are both located.

According to Associate Professor of Agriculture and Veterinary Technology Doug Pierson, the students will travel to Les Cayes, where they will put their skills to use caring for residents’ animals by participating in mobile clinics and coordinating with the local veterinary agent.

“I think the weekend was wonderful,” said Colleen Argentieri, director of Alumni Relations, and co-chair of the Homecoming and Family Weekend Committee. “Not only did the weather cooperate, but we could not have ordered a more perfect weekend, in terms of attendance.”

The ��Ӱֱ�� State Dining Services team has returned to the national stage after receiving a silver award for a New York Harvest Experience it created for the college’s students in September 2015. The award was presented to the team at the annual convention of the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS).

Teaming up with the Take Back the Night Foundation, ��Ӱֱ�� State’s Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Title IX is looking to help spread awareness on the issue of sexual assault and violence by hosting “10 Points of Light” from Oct. 24-28.

“It is an exciting time for our students, the community, and the business and industry partners that employ our graduates,” stated Dr. Skip Sullivan, president of ��Ӱֱ�� State. “I personally appreciate the investment in ��Ӱֱ�� State and the investment in the next generation of students who will meet workforce needs in the future. This state-of-the-art facility is a gem."

Offering 4.5 miles of trails and gorgeous views of nearby scenery, ��Ӱֱ�� State’s Pioneer Trail system is now officially open.

“The college has a long history of being a leader in sustainability, including classroom instruction, building a Zero Energy Home on the Wellsville campus, and leading a $2.8 million NYSERDA grant on clean energy training across New York State,” said Dr. Craig Clark, vice president of Economic Development at ��Ӱֱ�� State. “We look forward to continuing to lead through the REV process.”

Classes began in Wellsville on Oct. 19, 1966 for 110 students enrolled in five programs taught by 10 faculty members. These five initial programs were automotive service, building construction, drafting, electrical service, and food service.

Green Dot is a program that asks its participants to imagine a map of their community, and how every time there is an instance of interpersonal or sexual violence, a Red Dot would be placed on the area in which that occurred.

“Barry Baskerville's Blue Bicycle” shows children how close observations and logical deductions can improve their problem-solving skills. The hero of the story is a precocious youngster named Barry Baskerville who dreams of becoming a great detective like Sherlock Holmes.

“The recognition illustrates that our students learn not only about social issues,” Greg Sammons said, “but also how to apply knowledge in order to actively engage these challenges and directly be a part of the solutions in our communities.”

Approximately 500 first- and second-graders toured the college farm, learning about vegetable production, milk production, horses, and other small animals and agriculture in general.

The seminars on Nov. 15, Feb. 22, and April 18 will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pioneer Center. Each will include video tutorials, demonstrations with live dogs, training plans, and other supporting materials.
