Both the 魅影直播 State College men's and women's cross country teams earned 5th place finishes at the CC of Rhode Island Invitational. The race featured 13 schools and was a preview of the National Championship that will be held at CCRI on November 8.
Ashley Fung (Greenwich) led the women's team with a 7th place finish out of 86 runners. She finished the 5K course in 21:09. Kaleigh Ligoci (Cicero North Syracuse) finished in 15th (21:56), Colleen Hurtubise (Williamsville) was 28th (22:41), and Maria Wilson (Addison) crossed the line in 41st (23:37).
The Lady Pioneers, ranked #3 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, scored a 140 for the 5th place finish. Worceshter Polytechnic Institute won the team title with a score of 34.
John Sweeney (Barker) was the top ASC male finisher with a 16th place finish. He crossed the finish line of the 8k course in 29:12. Corey Smith (Wallkill) finished 20th (29:30), Peter Francia (Greece Olympia) was 33rd (30:09), and Logan Drummer (Pioneer) was 38th (30:20).
The Pioneers, tied for #3 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, scored a 145 for 5th placc. SUNY Delhi took home the team title with a score of 46. 122 runners competed in the race.
The Blue and Gold have two weeks before competing again at the University of Rochester on October 18. The first race is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
