Track Team Competes at Colgate

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College indoor track and field team competed at the Colgate University Class of '32 Invitational on Saturday.  The Pioneers competed versus numerous NCAA Division I and III competition along with their NJCAA Region III foes.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball team dropped a back and forth contest 60-52 to Erie CC on Saturday.  During the contest sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) established a new ASC career scoring record of 920 points.

Pioneers Excel in Lone Home Meet

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College swim team had a successful evening in their lone home meet of the season.  The men's team scored 76 points and finished ahead of Erie CC (49) and Jamestown CC (39) while the women finished second with 38 points behind ECC's 63 and ahead of JCC's 35.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College wrestling team couldn't overcome two forfeits and fell 30-17 to Jamestown CC in a WNYAC dual on Wednesday.  The Pioneers are now 1-3-1 overall on the season and 1-2-1 in WNYAC action.

Monroe CC hit 59% of their first half shots to build a 46-29 halftime lead en route to a 84-68 victory over ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State on Tuesday evening.  The Tribunes, #3 in NJCAA Division III, improve to 15-1 (2-1 WNYAC) on the season while the Pioneers fall to 9-11 (3-2 WNYAC).

Art Show at Hinkle Memorial Library

The exhibit features the creations of three members of the Allegany Artisans: Betsy and Charles Orlando of Belmont and Elaine Hardman of Wellsville.

Cody Dill (Unatego) and Eric Shedden (Canton, PA) each placed as ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State competed at the annual New York State Championships held at Cornell University this weekend.  The Pioneers competed versus the 18 colleges that have wrestling teams in NY.

The indoor track & field team fared well at the Mary Phillips Invitational at SUNY Fredonia on Saturday.  The Pioneers had numerous more athletes qualify for Regionals as they competed versus the Blue Devils, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ University, and Erie CC.

Jamestown CC used a late 11-1 run to propel to a 76-74 victory over ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State in a tight WNYAC contest on Saturday.  The loss snaps a three-game winning streak and drops the Pioneers to 9-10 overall and 3-1 in WNYAC action.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College swim team had a strong showing at the Erie CC Inviational on Saturday.  The men finished 2nd out of seven teams with 213 points while the women finished 5th with 129 points.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) hit six three-pointers as the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team won their third straight contest 71-55 over Mercyhurst North East.  The Pioneers even their record up at 9-9 and are now 3-0 in WNYAC play.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball team shot just 28.8% from the field and fell 70-62 to Mercyhurst North East in a WNYAC contest.  The Lady Pioneers fall to 10-7 (1-1 WNYAC) on the season while the Lady Saints improve to 10-2 (1-2 WNYAC).

AndersonOn Wednesday, Jan. 20, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State hosted an information session with Dr. Van Dine, Wellsville, retired ophthalmologist, who provided a brief insight into the evolving situation in Haiti. On Friday, Dr. Van Dine will travel to Haiti to assist with recovery efforts.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College swim team opened up the 2010 portion of their schedule on Wednesday with a WNYAC meet at Genesee CC.  The Cougars slipped past the Pioneers 62-46 on the women's side and 73-51 on the men's side.

Brooks Named Region III Athlete of the Week

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) has been named the Region III female athlete of the week for the third time during the 2009-10 season.  Brooks led the Lady Pioneers to two convincing victories last week.

Paterson’s proposed Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act as “the most profound initiative to positively impact public higher education in New York State since the Nelson Rockefeller era. I applaud his efforts."

Caba Begins Second Year at Helm of NJCFCA

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College Head Football Coach Mick Caba recently completed the first year of a 2-year term as National President of the NJCAA Football Coaches Association. In January, Caba presided over the NJCFCA National  Business  Meeting in Orlando, Florida.  The NJCFCA meetings are held at the American Football Coaches Association Convention each year.

Gov. Paterson Proposes Public Higher Education Reforms Which Would Provide Flexibility to SUNY

Governor David A. Paterson today announced that his 2010-11 Executive Budget will include the most significant reforms to the State’s system of public higher education in a generation. The Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act will provide the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) the flexibility needed to become centers of job creation. The proposed reforms would enable New York’s public higher education system to become the new model of excellence
