Utilizing the technology and resources available on campus, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College is teaming up with local businesses to help fill the need for more face masks for healthcare workers and essential employees.

At a time when the world has people spinning their wheels, full of uncertainty, and wondering what’s next, two ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College (ASC) employees are setting an example by volunteering for the good of their communities. 

Countless ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State alumni are on the front line of the current battle against the coronavirus. Recently, the college’s Athletic Department had the chance to speak with four former Pioneer student-athletes about their work on the front line.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College is pleased to announce that Trish Haggerty has been named the new interim executive assistant to the president.

While COVID-19 and social distancing may have prevented a traditional Hot Dog Day event from happening this year, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College and ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ University made sure that the annual celebration was still able to take place in a fun virtual setting.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College is proud to announce that two of its students, Brianna Swartz and Cassandra Robbers, have each been named a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (CASE).

Bates, who was a maintenance assistant in the Facilities Services Department, passed away at the age of 39 on April 13, one week after testing positive for COVID-19.

Even in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State Pioneers are still finding ways to come together virtually to connect, bond, and lift each other’s spirits. One of these ways came in the form of a recent virtual poetry reading hosted by the English and Humanities Department. 

When Justin Recktenwald noticed a Facebook post about a local business converting alcohol into hand sanitizer, he saw an opportunity to help out and make a positive impact on his community. 

Since March 23, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State Pioneers have been continuing their education on the web, with learning transitioning from hands-on to online.

Campus Compact, a Boston-based non-profit organization working to advance the public purposes of higher education, has announced the 290 students who will make up the organization’s 2020-2021 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows, including ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College’s own Elijah Blumberg.

As the need for more medical workers in New York State continues to grow due to the coronavirus, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College (ASC) Nursing Department faculty members are stepping up to answer the call of duty locally at area hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College is pleased to announce that Jason Sciotti has been named the new interim director of Development, effective April 13.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State is giving prospective students and their families the opportunity to check out the college from the safety and comfort of their own homes this month by offering five Virtual Open Houses. 

For a college that usually has more than 4,000 students, faculty, and staff, the current campus population of under 100 people shows how efforts to reduce population density have worked at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College (ASC). 

Hunter DeJonge, an ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State construction management student from Clifton Springs, was recently named the recipient of the Reilly Family Memorial Scholarship by the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA).

While people may be staying home due to the coronavirus, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College (ASC) was still able to connect its students with employers recently by holding virtual career fairs.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State Pioneers are known for helping one another and overcoming great obstacles. 

That’s why during this time of crisis, the college has established the Support Our Students (SOS) Emergency Fund to assist ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State students who have serious financial needs due to COVID-19.

 

During these stressful times, communication and transparency of information are critical. The Village of ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥, Volunteer Fire and EMS, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ University, and ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College are all committed to working together and making relevant health information available to the public.

Volunteers from ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College made a positive impact on a family in need in early March through a civic engagement trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.

Through this affiliation, students enrolling or currently enrolled in ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State’s four-year health sciences program can become simultaneously enrolled at LECOM as participants in an early acceptance program (EAP). As part of the EAP, LECOM will interview students prior to their enrollment at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State or within the first two years of study at ASC.
