The honor began in 2012 and is named for Bob Pahl, a Boston-area architect, who graduated from ��Ӱֱ�� State in 1981 with a degree in architectural engineering technology. The awards were presented this year to Vina Pham, Lauren Fisher, and Katie Petix.

“The Institute for Public Architecture has supported various kinds of fellowships for architects and artists. Last year they began hosting overnight residencies, and I was fascinated by the opportunity to live and work on Governors Island while working on an independent research project.”

��Ӱֱ�� State’s Katie Petix (Bloomfield, NY) was recognized with the Simultaneous Award in the competition for her entry “A Place to Dwell.” Petix’s proposal, recently featured in Architype, the digital magazine of AIA Connecticut, was located on the Bay of Naples, Italy, and was comprised of “six 600 square foot homes woven into a multi-story model of elegant efficiency.”

David Carli, Melanie Ryan, and Andrea Williamson were honored for earning SUNY Chancellor Award at the annual Recognition Celebration.

“Such an experience develops a fully evolved worldview for students. This is important because they will soon be employed and interacting with a wide diversity of people and cultures. Changes half a world away also impact economies and American society at lightning speed. Providing opportunities like this as part of what they’ve learned at ��Ӱֱ�� State positions our students to be more adaptive and prepared for great success.”

Gary Moore ’76 and Christiana Mehmel ’19 were honored for bringing distinction to their alma mater and to themselves through their outstanding personal and professional achievements. Moore was named the 2023 ��Ӱֱ�� State Distinguished Alumni while Mehmel was named the 2023 ��Ӱֱ�� State Outstanding Young Alumni Award Winner.
