Pioneer Wrestlers Compete at Nationals

Five members of the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College wrestling team traveled to Des Moines, IA and competed in the NJCAA National Championships over the weekend. The Pioneers were one of 39 teams competing in the event.

Erie CC used a strong second half to advance to the Region III Division II Tournament semfinals with a 76-61 victory over ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State. The Kats will take on Jamestown CC on Saturday while the Lady Pioneers finish the campaign with a 11-16 record.

Five ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College wrestlers will represent the college at the 2010 NJCAA National Championships in Des Moines, IA. Northeast District Champions Eric Shedden (Canton, PA) and TJ Nelson (Somers) will be joined by Cody Dill (Unatego), Dan Steiger (Miller Place), and Shawn Hanrahan (Unatego) will compete at Veterans Memorial Auditorium beginning on Friday morning.
Pioneers Drop Heartbreaker

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State and Niagara CCC battled to another barnburner in a Region III Division II 1st round contest on Tuesday night with the Blazers holding on for a 89-87 victory to advance to the Final Four. NCCC (11-9) will take on #1 ranked and #1 seeded Erie CC on Saturday while ASC closes out the season with a 12-18 record.
Wilson Named Region Athlete of the Week

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomore Neil Wilson (Fort Worth, TX) has been named the Region III male athlete of the week. Wilson, the Pioneers leading scorer, scored 48 points in two games for the blue & gold.

Dr. John M. Anderson, president, ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College, has joined a growing list of higher education leaders committed to fighting global warming. Earlier this week, Anderson agreed to sharply reducing and eventually eliminating all of the college’s global warming emissions, and accelerating the research and educational efforts to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate.

Wilson Hits Game Winner in Final Seconds

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) capped a career night by hitting a game winning jumper with seven seconds left to lift ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State to a key 85-83 victory over Niagara CCC on Saturday. The win propels the Pioneers to 12-17 overall record (6-8 in WNYAC play) and the #4 seed in next week's Region III Division II Tournament.
Lady Pioneers Lose Close One, Brooks Eclipses 1,000 points

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's basketball team fell 61-59 to Niagara CCC in their regular season finale. In the contest sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) eclipsed scored her 1,000 career point to become the first Lady Pioneer to reach the milestone.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's indoor track & field team finished 3rd while the men finished 4th at the 2010 Region III Indoor Championships held in conjunction with RIT's Last Chance meet. The women scored 80 points while the men scored 94.

Students to Participate in Northeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition

The Greeks at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College have once again smashed the myths surrounding fraternities and sororities by surpassing the all-student grade point averages (GPA) in fall 2009. This major accomplishment has been the result of hard work and dedication by members of the Student Life staff as well as Greek leaders who have encouraged sororities and fraternities to include scholarship and academic excellence as important goals for their organizations.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's swim team finished 6th overall and 4th in Region III at the Northeast Districts over the weekend while the women finished 8th overall and 5th in Region III. The men scored 170.5 points while the women accumulated 73.5.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team led for most of their WNYAC contest versus Genesee CC but the Cougars mounted a second half comeback outscoring ASC 40-25 to earn a 67-61 victory. The Pioneers fall to 11-16 overall and 5-7 in WNYAC play.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College basketball teams struggled in road contests at Monroe CC. The men fell 75-54 to the #3 ranked Tribunes while the women were defeated 114-49 by the #13 ranked Lady Tribunes.

Five former ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College wrestlers will be inducted into the Region III/Northeast District I Hall of Fame on Sunday prior the championship matches of the Northeast District Championships. Jamie Luckett (2005-2007), Tyler Shephard (2003-2005, Dan Chase (2001-2003), Pat Nolan (1990-1992), and Tony Ferrara (1988-1990) will be honored.

Students, faculty, and staff at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College continue their efforts on behalf of Haiti relief. In just three weeks, a variety of activities has netted a total of $7,350.31. Among the most visible is the growing paper brick wall being built in the Central Dining Hall on the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ campus.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) and Younatan Gobezai (Washington DC) led the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's basketball team past Jamestown CC 76-65. The win avenges an early season loss to JCC and improves the Pioneers to 11-14 overall and 5-5 in WNYAC play.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State and Jamestown CC were tied 39-39 at half but the Lady Pioneers shot just 15.2% in the second half and fell 76-58. JCC improves to 20-6 while ASC falls to 10-12 (1-6 WNYAC).
