The ��Ӱֱ�� State lacrosse team recorded their second straight win with a 9-8 victory over Cayuga CC in a Region III contest on Wednesday.  The Pioneers are now 5-8 on the season and 4-7 in RIII play.

Two ��Ӱֱ�� State graduating seniors – Amanda Bush of Altoona, PA, and Masanari Yamamoto of Tokyo, Japan – have been named State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence recipients for 2012.

This year’s concert will also serve to dedicate the Anthony C. Cappadonia Auditorium, honoring Cappadonia’s 56 years of teaching and directing instrumental and choral groups at ��Ӱֱ�� State. A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:15 p.m. will precede the performance, and the official dedication will occur during the concert’s intermission.

��Ӱֱ�� State and Corning CC battled in a Region III Division III doubleheader that featured more twists and turns than a mystery novel.  The Pioneers (5-23, 4-12) walked off with a 9-8 victory in game one while the Red Barons (7-15, 4-10) took game two 7-6 behind a solo homer in the top of the 9th.

ALS, also called “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a fatal neurodegenerative disease for which there is no known cause or cure. The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Room 215 of the Engineering Technology Building and is open to the public. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Engineering Technology Building.

The 13^th annual ��Ӱֱ�� State Regional Science and Technology Fair will be held this Friday, April 20, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Orvis Activities Center gymnasium on the ��Ӱֱ�� campus.

��Ӱֱ�� State multi athletes Travis Nagle (Randolph) and Kayla Franchina (Cassadaga Valley) etched their name into the record book with solid showings at the Region III Decathlon and Heptathlon. Nagle was 2nd in the two-day event while Franchina was 3rd.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State softball team rebounded from an opening game loss at Jefferson CC (L 10-0) to win 4-3 in the second game of the Region III Division III doubleheader.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State men's track & field team finished 6th out of 16 teams at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational.  The women's team was 14th out of 16.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State lacrosse team scored the game's first twelve goals en route to a 19-6 victory over Mohawk Valley on Saturday. The win improves the Pioneers to 4-8 on the season and 3-7 in Region III play.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State baseball team were just outs away from defeating Monroe CC at the David Chamberlain Tournament but the Tribunes rallied for three runs in the 7th to walk-off with a 5-4 victory.

Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg) singled home Kiele Wilson (Bath Haverling) in the 7th inning to break a 4-4 tie en route to a ��Ӱֱ�� State 6-4 victory over Broome CC on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers clinched the series with the victory and finish the year 3-1 vs. the Hornets.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State softball team played in a wild doubleheader at Genesee CC on Thursday. Genesee used a big five-run 5th inning in the first game to race to a 13-5 victory. In the nightcap, the Lady Pioneers scored seven runs in the 6th to tie the game at 11-11 but lost in heartbreaking style 14-13 in nine innings.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State baseball team dropped a pair of 10-0 decisions to Onondaga CC in a Region III Division III doubleheader.

��Ӱֱ�� State women's basketball player Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) has been named a 2nd team NJCAA Division II All-American. Witchella is the fifth Lady Pioneer since 2007 to earn All-American honors (Brittney Brooks - 2009, Anthia Smith & Tiffany McLaughlin - 2008, and Nichole Tyler - 2007).

Jack Timerson scored with 1:27 remaining to break an 11-11 tie and lift Finger Lakes CC to a 12-11 victory over ��Ӱֱ�� State in a key Region III battle. The one-goal loss was the third of the season for the blue & gold.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State track & field teams moved up in the latest NJCAA Division III poll. The men moved up three spots to #3 while the women moved up two to the #4 ranking.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State softball team fell 10-0 and 13-4 to Onondaga CC as they opened up the home portion of the 2012 season. The games were played in periodic snow showers, high wind, and low temperatures.

Onondaga CC took advantage of 13 walks and nine errors in a Region III Division III sweep at ��Ӱֱ�� State on Tuesday. The Lazers won the opener 13-1 and the nightcap 6-1 in games that featured snow flurries, high winds, and cold temperatures.

Dr. Doug Pierson, assistant professor in the Agriculture and Veterinary Technology Department at ��Ӱֱ�� State, will lead the April New Horizon’s Forum with an update on the impact that ��Ӱֱ�� State students have had on recovery efforts of the Haiti Health Ministries from the devastation of the January 2010 earthquake. ��Ӱֱ�� State students will be traveling to Haiti again in May 2012 for the third year in a row.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State track and field team had a few more athletes qualify for the NJCAA National Championships as they competed at the Nazareth College ROC City Classic on Saturday.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State baseball team gave up three big innings as they were swept by Niagara CCC in a Region III Division III doubleheader.  The Pioneers are now 3-16 (2-7 RIII DIII) on the season following 11-1 and 17-2 losses.

Defending NJCAA champion and #1 ranked Onondaga CC raced past ��Ӱֱ�� State 34-1 in a Region III contest on Saturday.  The Lazers improve to 7-0 on the season while the Pioneers are now 3-7 (2-6 Region III).

The ��Ӱֱ�� State lacrosse team could never get anything going in a 27-6 loss at #4 Genesee CC.  With the win the Cougars have now won seven straight (7-1) while the Pioneers fall to 3-6 (2-5 Region III).

The ��Ӱֱ�� State baseball team dropped a heartbreaker 3-2 in 13 innings to Tompkins Cortland CC and could not recover in game two as they fell 10-0.  The Pioneers are now 3-14 (2-5 Region III Division III) on the season.

The team utilized heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders, and an articulated truck to redirect the Apalachin Creek stream bed and create a berm that will better control any future flooding.

For the third year in a row the ��Ӱֱ�� State Football and Softball teams will host a Bone Marrow Registry Drive.  The two previous drives have been larger than most in Western New York State and have averaged 130-140 registered with 40% multi-race (minority) registrants.

Both the ��Ӱֱ�� State outdoor track & field teams are ranked #6 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll. The Pioneers slipped a few spots from the initial poll last week.

��Ӱֱ�� State baseball player Garrett Hoag (Dansville) has been named the Region III Co-Athlete of the week. He shares the weekly honor with Mercyhurst North East baseball player Dustin Godden.

Entitled “The Enemy Manufactured: Nationalism, Religious Fundamentalism and Nuclear Weapons,” Dr. Choichiro Yatani presented his peace psychology research, an empirical and theoretical study of “the deadly cocktail” of the three variables, to the forum on public policy.
