Cross Country Ranked #9

Both the men's and women's cross country teams at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State are ranked #9 in the NJCAA Division III poll.  The Pioneers open up the regular season on Saturday when they host the annual ASC Invitational.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College punter/tight end Preston Washburn (Dundee) has been named the Northeast Football Conference co-special teams player of the week.  Washburn had a solid game in the Pioneers 21-14 victory over Stevens Tech on Saturday afternoon.

Binder Named Region III Male Athlete of the Week

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College soccer player Kyle Binder (Hornell) has been named the Region III Male Athlete of the Week after helping the Pioneers to two victories this past week.  ASC defeated Genesee CC 6-5 on Thursday at home and then downed Broome CC 5-0 on Saturday.

Pioneers baseball drops a pair

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State baseball lost both games of a double header with Erie CC 10-5 and 9-5 Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers were beaten by the big inning in both contests giving up 6 runs in the 6th inning of game 1 and 5 runs in the 1st inning of game 2.

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State and Mercyhurst North East split their Western New York Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  The Pioneers won the opener 7-2 but fell 3-2 in the nightcap.  ASC is now 2-2 overall on the season (1-1 WNYAC).

Brittany Hannah (Eastridge) netted a hat trick as ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State's women's soccer team came away with a 5-1 victory against SUNY Delhi on Saturday. 

Spikers Win Mohawk Valley Tournament

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College volleyball team won the Mohawk Valley CC Tournament for the third year in a row with a perfect 5-0 record.  The Lady Pioneers downed Adirondack CC (23-25, 25-9, 15-8), Herkimer CCC (25-11, 25-20), and Mohawk Valley CC (25-7, 25-11) in pool play before downing Monroe CC (25-18, 25-21) in the semis and Adirondack CC (25-8, 25-17) in the finals.

Kyle Binder (Hornell) led the way with two goals and Alex Curran (Williamsville) had three assists as the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State men's soccer team shut out Broome Community College 5-0 saturday afternoon in Binghamton.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College football team enjoyed playing on campus for the first time in the program's 13-year history as the Pioneers downed Stevens Tech 21-14 in front of 1,278 fans on Saturday.  The Pioneers have now won season openers six of the last seven years.

The wait for the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College football team to play on campus is nearly over as the Pioneers are working on final preparations for Saturday's 2008 season opener versus Stevens Tech (Lancaster, PA).  Saturday's 3 p.m. kickoff will mark the first football game played on the college's new athletic complex and the first game in the programs 13-year history to be played on campus.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College men's soccer team defeated Genesee CC 6-5 in a back-and-forth WNYAC contest on the new athletic complex on campus.  The game was the first soccer game played on the field.  With the victory ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ improves to 2-1 on the season.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College women's soccer team opened up the 2008 season with an impressive 7-0 victory at Corning CC on Thursday.  Six different Lady Pioneers found the back of the net in the victory.
