For the second year in a row and the third time in the past four years, the ��Ӱֱ�� State College will be hosting a Dig Pink event.  All proceeds of Dig Pink events nationwide benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing compassionate support to breast cancer patients and their families.

��Ӱֱ�� State Pioneer Woodsmen’s Club teams came out swinging at the opening competition for collegiate lumberjacks this past weekend! The Finger Lakes Woodsmen Team hosted the Fall Festival Woodsmen competition at Cumming Nature Center in Naples, NY, on Oct. 2, 2011.

The ��Ӱֱ�� State College Dining Services team celebrated winning a Gold Award from the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) in August. The team won the award over the summer for a Mediterranean Cruise special event it hosted at the college in March,

“Understanding the Marcellus Shale,” a lecture by Dr. Katherine Klingensmith, professor of biology and environmental science at Keuka College, is the second event in the New Horizons Forum fall series. It will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in room 215 of the Engineering Technology Building on the ASC campus from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and is open to the public.

The Office of Communications at ��Ӱֱ�� State College has been notified by the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) that it has been named a recipient of that organization’s District 1 Medallion Awards for its entries, the Athletics Brochure and bus wrap, in the categories of Brochure/Flyer Series and Transit Advertising, respectively.

On a recent Wednesday morning, Professor Mark Payne asked his students if any of them would be interested in a trip to the Schoharie area to assist in flood relief efforts there.

During Homecoming 2011, five ��Ӱֱ�� State College athletic alumni were inducted into the athletic department hall of fame.  Swimmer John Meade, track & field athlete Damian Rodriguez, lacrosse player Matthew Covert, baseball player Joe Greany, and swimmer Ashley Vogl will join the 56 inducted athletes.

Senior masonry students at ��Ӱֱ�� State College recently donated their skills and time to construct a pizza oven for The Jesus Church in Addison.

440 yards of offense and an 87-yard kickoff return sent the Homecoming crowd home happy as ��Ӱֱ�� State defeated Stevens Tech 49-27.  The win improves ASC to 2-1 on the year while Stevens Tech is now 2-2.

The New Horizons Forum is sponsored by the School of Arts and Sciences and offers programs which showcase scholarly, creative, and public service work currently engaged in by faculty, students, professional staff, and invited guests. It is guided by a campus-wide team of advisers whose goal is to enrich the intellectual life of the institution.
