��Ӱֱ�� State College is partnering with several Allegany County human services agencies to conduct an Allegany County Community Action Day, Saturday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The day is intended to coordinate volunteer groups and individuals to engage in meaningful, high-impact service projects in the ��Ӱֱ�� and Wellsville communities; connect with neighbors, students, and fellow community members while making a difference; and build relationships with local non-profit agencies while actively supporting their missions.

Dr. Richard Kellogg, professor of psychology at ��Ӱֱ�� State College, is the author of an article appearing in the most recent issue of PAPERBACK PARADE, a quarterly magazine published by Gryphon Books of New York. Titled “Philip Wylie’s Nuclear Nightmare,” the article states that writer Philip Wylie (1902-1971) was an expert on nuclear energy who wrote extensively about the perils of a global atomic war.

Dr. Douglas Pierson, (VMD) ��Ӱֱ�� State College assistant professor, Agriculture and Veterinary Technology Department, who previously lived and worked as a veterinary field worker in Haiti as part of Christian Veterinary Mission before joining ASC, coordinated a relief trip to Haiti after commencement.

The WINS Club recently conducted its Spring fund raiser to donate money for perishable items to area food pantries. Three checks totaling $180 were sent to ��Ӱֱ�� Station Food Pantry, the Salvation Army in Wellsville, and Steuben Rural Ministry.

The college’s winners included the 2009-10 Viewbook, an overview of the college published annually for recruitment purposes; Transitions magazine, Fall 2009 issue, the college and alumni periodical; and the video “,” featuring College President Dr. John M. Anderson delineating the strategic initiatives of ��Ӱֱ�� State.

Fifty-nine percent of the ’09 graduates who responded to the survey are employed, while 40 percent opted to continue their education. One percent remain available for employment. Among those employed, 87 percent are working in jobs related to their college field of study.

��Ӱֱ�� State College student Patrick VanHaverbeke, Wellsville, was among 17 high-achieving engineering students attending New York State colleges and universities who will receive $45,000 collectively in scholarship money from member firms of the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York. The individual scholarship awards range from $2,500 to $5,000.

The Educational Foundation of ��Ӱֱ��, Inc., annually funds up to eight ��Ӱֱ�� State College students through its work-grant program, allowing students who are ineligible for work-study funds to find employment on campus. The grant is renewable on an annual basis.

Folks interested in “Dynamic Aging” attended a seminar by the same name on the ��Ӱֱ�� State College campus May 27. Nearly 120 people gathered to hear key note speaker Jo Reed talk about The Maturing of America.

This year’s winners included Physical & Health Sciences; Barb Davis, secretary, Dean’s Office, School of Applied Technology; Carolyn Pratt, cleaner, Facilities Services; and Deborah Neu, secretary, Student Records and Financial S
