Lettuce Indulge - Lettuce Tasting Event, April 22

Enough with the chicken wings and comfort foods -it's time to get your palate ready for spring. ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College will host New York's first Lettuce Tasting event on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in the new Student Gathering Place on campus. "Lettuce Indulge," hosted by ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State's Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA), will give students and members of the community the chance to sample COSA's produce while giving their taste buds an education in greens.

WINS FutureBound Career Day

WINS FutureBound Career Day÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College's Office of Career Development hosted its annual "WINS" (Women in Non-traditional Studies) FutureBound Career Day late last month.

This annual career exploration day is held for 10th grade girls interested in learning more about non-traditional occupations and careers (non-traditional occupations are defined as those with fewer than 25 percent female

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College held its 10th annual New York State postsecondary SkillsUSA competition on March 29, 2008. Sixty-four students from ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College, SUNY Delhi, and the Culinary Institute of America (Hyde Park) competed in 12 vocational and leadership skill areas.

Construction Management Technology Program Granted Reaccreditation

The construction management technology program at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College has been granted reaccreditation by the board of trustees of the American Council for Construction Education.  The program has maintained the stringent standards of ACCE and has proven to the board, through a visiting team of its peers and industry practitioners, that the program is worthy of reaccreditation.

LettuceThere may be snow on the ground and a nip in the air, but the cropping season is well underway at ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College.  Thanks to new greenhouse and lighting technologies, the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Technology, located in the central Southern Tier, is growing vegetables year-round.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College outdoor track and field team remains in the top ten of the latest NJCAA Division III poll.  The men are currently ranked #5 while the women are ranked #6.

Smith and McLaughlin Named All-American

Anthia SmithTiffany McLaughlin÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College sophomores Anthia Smith (Elmira Free) and Tiffany McLaughlin (Wellsville) have been named NJCAA Division II All-Americans.  Smith was selected to the 2nd team while McLaughlin was a 3rd team selection. 

Campus is Saddened by Loss of Student

The campus community is saddened to learn of the death of Anthony Carino, who died Friday evening in a Rochester-area hospital.  Cause of death has not been released by the hospital.

Anthony was a senior in ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College's architectural technology program. 

College officials-on behalf of the entire campus community-extend their deepest sympathy to Anthony's family and friends.

Big Third Quarter Leads Lacrosse to Win

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College lacrosse team scored 12 unanswered goals to erase a 7-5 halftime deficit to en route to a 19-8 victory over Cayuga CC on Tuesday evening.  The win improves the Pioneers to 4-1 (3-0 Region III).

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College softball team ran their winning streak to four games with a doubleheader sweep at Erie CC.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 5-7 on the season with 23-1 and 5-2 victories.

Baseball Sweeps Tompkins Cortland

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College baseball team jumped over .500 with a home doubleheader sweep of Tompkins Cortland CC on Tuesday.  ASC scored a run in the 7th to win the opener 3-2 and then got the offense going in a 11-2 victory in game two.  The Pioneers are now 10-9-1 on the season.

57th Annual Alumni Choral Spring Concert Scheduled

÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College presents the 57thAnnual Alumni Choral Spring concert, under the direction of Anthony Cappadonia, ASC director of vocal music emeritus.  The concert will be held Sunday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in the Orvis Activities Center Auditorium on the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College campus.

The concert is open to the public free of charge and features the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College Alumni Choir; the Alumni Jazz Singers, the '87 Collegiate Quartet, and Andy's A cappella Armada.

Track Starts Fast in Outdoor Opener

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College outdoor track and field team finally got their 2008 season started in the sunshine at the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers put together some impressive performances in their season opener.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College baseball team defeated Hagerstown CC 5-0 in the nightcap to earn a split of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers are now 8-9-1 on the season.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College softball team opened up the Northern portion of their schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Elmira College JV on Thursday evening.  The Blue and Gold won the opener 11-7 and the nightcap 12-0.  ASC improves to 3-7 on the year.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College lacrosse team won their second straight and improved to 3-1 (2-0 Region III) with a 17-11 victory at Genesee CC on Thursday.  ASC outscored GCC 7-1 in the 3rd quarter to take full control of the contest.

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College baseball team split a Region III doubleheader versus Corning CC on Thursday at Bolivar Richburg High School.  The Red Barons took the opener 4-0 while the Pioneers won the nightcap 12-3.

Blue and Gold open up New Stadium with Victory

The ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College lacrosse team opened up the new on-campus athletic field with an impressive 18-10 victory over Mercyhurst North East on Tuesday afternoon.  The Pioneers outscored the Saints 7 to 2 in the 2nd quarter to take solid lead that they never relinquised.  With the win, A-State improves to 2-1 (1-0 Region III) while Mercyhurst falls to 2-4 (1-2 Region III).

Professionals Attend Conference on Aging

Rose Marie FaganAbout 150 professionals convened on the ÷ÈÓ°Ö±²¥ State College recently to attend the fourth annual Conference on Aging. Rose Marie Fagan, outreach coordinator, The Pioneer Network, who served as the morning's keynote speaker, discussed pioneering approaches to change the culture of aging from the traditional nursing facilities to a culture that is life affirming, satisfying, humane, and meaningful.
